View of the fort from outside. Walls are all you can see. The fort is now maintained by ASI.

Picture of a temple as you enter the gate. Inside the fortified walls there are many temples. It seems most of the construction happened in 2 phase, in different generations. If I remember correctly a few of the Jain temples belong to the era much before king Kumbha

Another of the temples.

Kumbhalgarh fort has perimeter walls that extend 36 kilometers in length, which makes it the third longest in the world after the Great Wall of China and the Great Wall of Gorgan in Iran (wikipedia). Although in a restaurant, I did read that it is 2nd longest in the world. I guess Iran does not count. Smile

A view of the wall. It is easily over 10 feet wide. Notice the wall on the far end of the hill.

More walls.

Don’t recall this. I guess the other side of it houses the kitchen etc.

More temples.

Watch tower.

Badal Mahal (cloud palace) which is on the left after entering, is the newest construction in the whole fort. It is a bit of a climb before you reach it.

Part of the hidden Badal Mahal.

After having lunch at Kumbalgarh we head for Ranakpur. The road is ok-ish but the drive is scenic with very few cars on the road.

Entrace of the Ranakpur Jain temple.

This place can only increase your fascination for Marble stones.

The temple has pillars in abundance, and none two have the same engraving design. I tried very hard to prove it otherwise. I ended up with headache Very Happy

You would think, what gives headache.

4950 act of examining resemblances. What Confused . First sign of headache.
100 C 2 (combinatorics). Why 100? I am sure there were more than 100 pillars.

I pick two sides facing each other, from the adajcent pillars. I am working my way up - they look same so far. But my wife points to the other sides - Arrgh. With head spinning I give up.

May be I should have counted the number of pillars first.
You may ask - why would I do such a stupid thing.
Simple - I was so in love with this place and there was no hurry too.

Hey Robin,

You guys really are a travel freak that you have managed to travel to Udaipur all the way from Banglore and I have not been able to visit this place from Delhi!
My longest drive has been to Amritsar of 440 kms one way in my Innova.

Ha Ha.

Don't kill me if I tell you that recently I drove from Delhi to Bangalore (not in my car). I was on a tight schedule so couldn't call you. Next time for sure.

You can't get a job in FICO because then there will be two Fabias in the company Smile.

This is an old thread. Here is the real fresh treat.
