Hi Fellow Fablovers,
I'm facing serious issues driving at night as my new office is ~25km and have to now compulsorily drive in late evening
My Fab's(Ambiente Plus 1.2 TDI CR) headlights are completely inadequate and with rains in bangalore its becoming a nightmare to drive over potholes and bumps
Last night I missed seeing a bump and luckily did no damage as was at ~30-40kmph
Have complained many times to skoda and also spoken to customer service managers , but they are saying our headlights passed all tests and you cannot upgrade as it would void the warranty !
Pls let me know if any of you have upgraded to higher wattage bulbs, and any good dealer in bangalore to do the same
many thanks

Hi,
You can check other threads where in people have upgraded their bulb with a cut out to 100/90 etc. Why dont you try to upgrade to a projector headlamps, you can try it at Vinayak Skoda, the projectors are similar to the ones in Fabia scout.

Hi,
Even i'm planning to go for higher wattage bulbs. Here is the outcome of my research.
You can go in for 100/90W bulbs with Relay(Cut-out) harness which comes with ceramic holders.
Bulbs:
1) Philips Rally or Extreme Vision
2) Osram Night Breakers
Pricing should be around 900/- to 1,200/- range
Relays:
1) Roots
2) Hella
3) Philips
Pricing should be around 800/- to 1,400/- range
All these relays come as plug n play. So, no skinning of existing wires. However, long usage over an extended period will damage the reflectors due to excess heat generated. Occasional usage should be fine.
Make sure you are buying from a dealer as there are lots of fake bulbs in the market.
Let us know your experience once you get it replaced. |

Hi,
Have you tried to upgrade to projector lamps, heard they are better off..
There are these projectors from Skoda and the after market projectors.
The aftermarket ones are fitted to the existing headlamps. has anyone tried either of these?
@hisundeep: In your post above you have mentioned the statement 'Occasional usage' - did you mean usage of the lights?
I have another question, i was looking out at one of the relay's being fixed to my friends Santro and they did cut the back part of the headlight cover(Where the bulbs fit), will they do the same here also, post that there was lots of dust which were entering the headlamps
Any inputs from members from the forum is appreciated. |

thanks Fellow Fab lovers,
Hisundeep,
I ve found a reliable local dealer, recommended by a friend in Jayanagar
He is also suggesting same thing 90/100 bulbs + Relay unit
He assured me that even I can replace them back to stock unit, anytime
Charges approx 2000/- for whole work.
My 1st service is due next month, so will manage for a month and then upgrade.
He demo-ed me how it will be done without cutting any exisiting wire.
Plus, you're right they will cut a hole in the back cover to insert the blubs
He didnt mention any over-heating issues, as new bulb will have new wire connected to batteries to draw power...will double check again.
Thanks

I was getting a pair of horns installed and in the meantime checked the Relay Harness. Yes you are right, the back of the reflectors need to be cut as there is no spacing for the new set of wires/ceramic holders from the relay. So, over a period of time there are chances that dust enters into the reflectors.
Using adhesive tape might not solve the problem, they might come out 'coz of the heat generated. |
