This is a 1998 3.5 V6 Montero (Petrol). We all know it as the Pajero. But this seems to be more than the Pajero sold in India up till very recent. It is understandable as Mitsubishi wanted to place this as a direct competitor for the Land Cruiser.
For example - this one has a rear diff lock, electric seats, heated seats and lots of other things that I haven't figured yet. Oh, it has dual airbags and ABS - cool for a 1998 model.
This one is a 4 speed auto with 200hp. Not very great considering the competition is mostly V8. But I like the Pajero.
We got it cheap as Mistsubishis never picked up in US like the Toyotas. But there was a big problem that we noticed. It was leaking engine oil in the chamber and smoked like a pig once the engine warmed up. Spent some more to get it in shape and running. That involved changing the piston rings (the culprit), head gasket, cat converter, tires, etc. The upside is that the mechanic is a real gentleman and allows me to hang around in his garage to learn repair stuff.
When we bought it had 134,000 miles on it. Have taken it to mountains close by to get more confidence in the car. _________________ Robin |
