Hello All,
I got the beauty today, after 1 nd 1/2 week long wait.
Today was one of the most wonderful and interesting day in my life. It is wonderful because I became the Owner of the Skoda Fabia, which is nothing but a Man made marvel.
Now the interesting part is the Chennai Gurudev's sales team.
Let me start from the beginning:
I was looking for a diesel hatch which gives me comfort and good driving experience.
Tested I20 Asta, Punto apart from the Fabia 1.4 TDi. Punto was removed from the list very quickly.
Noted that, the Price of I20 Asta and Fabia 1.4 Ambi are almost the same. In fact, with the discounts Skoda is throwing, the OTR price of 1.4 is much less than I20 Asta.
Now, as you all know, the quality of the interior is THE point where we all fall in lav with the Fabia. I / my wife, both are not exceptions. The I20's interior was ok, but will never come near Fabia.
I weighed the positives and negatives and went with what my heart said (ignoring may be my brain, which said 'Why are you spending this much for a small car man???') and purchased the Fabia 1.4 TDi Ambi.
Now, for the interesting part of the deal. Gurudev motors in Chennai are there in the business for the last 5 - 6 years. I would say, the people in this forum know more things than the guys there in the showroom. They were just a place holder from Skoda India. (sorry to say that, or may be my bad luck)
Anyways, here i am writing to you all happily. I will post the pics later.
I have a doubt about the automatic locking of Ambi model. Will it lock the diesel vent as well, automatically?
Also, as the dealer proudly proclaimed to have the car serviced only in the next year or after 15000 KM, should i follow that? One of the positive outcome may be that I need to see them only once in a year!!!!
Thanks to you all once more for accepting me to post to this wonderful thread.
Drive Safely.
Cheers,
Ananth |

Ananth,
First of all, Heartiest Congratulations on acquiring the lil beauty. May she give you many miles of trouble free service.
'Lock the Diesel Vent' by this i presume you are talking about the Fuel Lid. Sadly that is not the case. The fuel cap itself has a manual lock that needs to be opened with the car key akin to our Amby's and Fiats of yore. The Lid itself is just a pop out mechanism.
Yes, the service interval for a new car has been raised to 15k kms. As you said its a good thing as long as it keeps you away from the dealiership.
Happy Driving. Awaiting some pics soon.
Cheers,

Hi Ananth,
Congratulations on your purchase. May the new car feel forever, for you. Please continue to drive safe and wish you and your mrs. to enjoy miles on it without any trouble or bad experiences.
Also, it's good that the first service (which includes oil change) is at 15000 kms, but a few of us might think it may be a worthwhile idea to change engine oil at or about 5000kms. This is because your new engine, which is running in currently, might have wastages and silver shavings from the rubbing of internal components and friction between new engine parts and this keeps getting accumulated in the engine oil compartment itself.
I don't know if this is harmful or not (I didn't change my engine oil at 5K kms since my 1st service happened at 8500kms) but sure is a 'safe' idea to change oil to get rid of these shavings waste from being internally circulated. Also please note most people here MIGHT not have changed their engine oil until the 1st service so it isn't a necessity.
You can take a call if its required or not, depending upon your usage and also the entine response. Skoda recommend and use Synthetic oil of premium grade [from Shell] for Fabia so the oil is a bit pricey and the Fabia consumes about 4ltrs @ every change. That's close to 3900 bucks
I'm just stating this as a recommendation, please don't start worrying about this now.. Enjoy your car, that's what is important
Have a blast Ananth.

Hello Guys,
Thanks a lot RM / Suresh / Ajay for your suggestions and tips.
@ Ajay - your points in my initial post were very helpful.
Just to update you all, I have a good drive today. The car is so smooth and I felt very glad. Also, the Breaks were rock solid and it made lot of difference when you drive.
Only main thing I am getting used to now is the initial pick up, which has a good turbo lag. But once you cross that 1800rpm, you will enjoy each bit.
Once again, thanks for all your well wishes.
Have a Safe Drive,
Regards,
Ananth |
