Hi all ,

Fabia petrol is booted out of big cities as it does not conform to BS 4 norms along with Maruti 800 . Maruti 800 was introduced almost 25 years ago whereas as Fabia came to India two years ago !!!

Now the issues. Fabia meets Euro 4 norms in Europe and no problem . In India it does not meet BS 4 which is same as Euro 4 and requires lot of modifications .There are many questions . Did not Skoda know that BS 4 is on the pipeline . Does this mean that skoda has used substandard parts and found an outlet ( Indian Market ) for their stock of unusable parts and is it real reason for introducing the car in India Polo complies with BS 4 and has same or similar engine but just tweaked for more power and less torque at lower speed . Why can not Skoda do the same or why skoda has not done that. . Is it a game plan to pull ot Fabia petrol as it has failed in India miserably.

I think Skoda has taken Indian customers for a solid ride . See the diff between Toyota and Skoda . Toyota chairman is going around apologizing to customers . This shows their humility and how much they care for their customers and how much they are commited to their product . Here in skoda everything is a secret and things are done in a hush hush manner with a view to cheat customers . There is also a rumour that Skoda Fabia will be discontinued shorty .Any views or any one has any inside information ?

Trying to analyze the reason for SKODA to discontinue Fabia 1.2HTP and Octavia 1.9TDI (Mind you it was a bestseller). Compliance to emission norms is just a pretex to make some strategic changes in the Product Mix. What appears most probable is that Fabia will henceforth have the same 1.2 TSI engine as Polo in near future. The outset of 1.2HTP is on account of poor fuel rating of 91 Octane in India and non availability of recommended 95 RON(Please refer the Owners Manual whic carries this Spec.) Octavia may be replaced by Fabia Combi and finally Skoda in india will carry only Four brands Fabia, Laura, Yeti, Superb. Liklehood of Octavia having identity crisis with Laura was evident.

It is unlikely that skoda will bring the usual 105 bhp 1.2 tsi in Fabia. Mainly due to cost. However Skoda also has a 1.2 tsi with 84 bhp, 160 NM 1500-3500 rpm engine (this torque figure is better than honda city). Good enough for a less than 12 sec 0-100 dash.

In all likely hood they will stick to the engine doing duty in Polo. We may see the tsi in the Combi. The problem with combi is that there is no improvement of cabin space over Fabia (alltough space is pretty good in fabia).

Surely the guideline will be apropos the 1.2L for petrol and 1.4L for Diesel and overall length not exceeding 4M to claim concessional Excise Duty. However Indian customers are extremely average fuel consumption oriented, hence power may be sacrificed for frugality. Most probable is 1.2L Polo Engine as it will make sense even from assembly and vendor sourcing point of view. Sales guy at Fahrenheit Automobiles here in Delhi (Who Claim to Sell Maximum Fabia in the Country) was contemplating Diesel Particle Filter to be included in 1.4 TDI. Lets hope for the best and look forward for more Fabia on road.
