|
|
Folks,
When I was in Mumbai during our vacation, in 3 separate incidents, I re-cranked the starter motor, without realising it was already on [sometimes, the 1.4 ltr is butter-smooth silent].
That is when I realised that the Skoda Fabia DOES NOT have the Crank Prevention feature that a lot of other cars have today [my Indica had it, damn]..
I am worried if significant damage could have been caused due to cranking when the engine is already operational [on]?? If yes, what is the extent of the damage?
Any Skoda damage worries me greatly.. Anyone here who can comment on the above, please?
Thanks

I have done it couple of times too. Don't worry the crank motor is not delicate. It can withstand a bit more torture . _________________ Robin |

My Goodness I never thought that the Skoda would'nt have so basic a feature.
The starter motor is what is in for trouble if you recrank a running engine. I have done it on a couple of occasions myself with my Esteem during my initial years but have had no problems of any sort thankfully.
Tell me something, if the Fabi's engine stalls do you not have to turn the key around to the OFF position and then only recrank. I know for sure that is the case in mine.
Let us know.

This is the case with me also. Eventhough the engine tries to start it doesn't succeed. But if you turn the key around to the OFF position and then recrank it works. |

This is because of the engine immobiliser. Fabia has floating code system and that is why we have to turn to OFF position, to reset a new code.
Marutis have static code, which means the code always remains the same. Hence no need to turn the key to OFF.
I think one can use this test to find the type of immobiliser in the car _________________ Robin |

Thanks for the info Robin. That makes sense and seems to be a good test too.

My insurance policy is due for renewal in july end, from that day before I turn the ignition I will have to pray daily in name of SKoda for trouble free drive.
with 2 years warranty over no choice.
Skoda damage worries all once warranty is over. More as our engine models are no longer going to be produced 3 months from now. _________________ Rgds

Wow. Never realized that. Btw just to add to my cup of woes the L.H.S rear view mirror assembly had gone awry too. Need to go back to the docs. I wonder whether they will be as kind to replace this within warranty too.
