Hi all,

Sorry if am boaring or wasting your time....
I think I will get my problems solved here.
Am not a Fabia(n) now but Wanna buy a car. To be frank, when i started thinking of a car, Maruti Swift was in my mind. Later on visited showrooms of Fiat, Volkswagen and being in the way just for a fun entered Skoda's also. Fabia was not in my mind. I just entered there to had a look at Laura and Superb. My friend went talking with executive about Fabia. After few days again visited Fiat and had a TD on Punto and on the way Fabia also, but not Polo, as i want some rear leg room.

After serious reviews I slowly get attracted to Fabia. Now, yesterday I just gave a purchase order to New Skoda Fabia 1.2 Petrol Elegant Red Colour. After that am very much disturbed and so now am here. I want help from people who own Fabia. Kindly go through these points and please help me...

1. I dont have Kilometers to cover daily.
2. Will it be worth for me to buy the said model car.
3. I am much feared about the maintenance cost, mileage, Spare parts price and all, as none of my friends posses a Fabia.
4. Most of my friends asking me to gor for Maruti Swift or Hyundai i10/i20 but after seening the build quality of Fabia i cant even thnk of those. As per their opinion the service after warranty will be hectic for me.

Now, am much confused about Fabia. What shall i do? Shall i go ahead or drop My Fabia Dream here( SORRY FOR ASKING THIS)? Can anyone here using Fabia help me for further step as this is my frst step to the world of car and i dont want to be a loser. Please help me.. Rolling Eyes

Regards,
Arun

Welcome to the forum Arun.

I will start with a suggestion. Since you have chosen the the elegant model, why not go for the 1.6 if your budget permits. It is only 40 grands more. 1.2 does feel strained on full load.

Fabia makes sense if you plan to keep the car for long (else look for a car with good resale, like Swift). It holds itself well even after much abuse. Spare prices are reasonable now, though it may be a bit expensive than the competition. Believe me, the early members have seen some ridiculous pricing. Things have now changed with local production at the Chakan factory and it's a relief. Clutch plate + flywheel can still set you back by 16k. You can look around the forum for prices, you will find them in plenty.

Getting the car service could be tricky. I prefer to have my car serviced my self rather than opting for the Skoda's pick and drop facility. It gives me a chance to interact with the service advisors, mechanics and manager and know my car better. It helps.
Otherwise the real problem statement gets lost in translation at various steps. The mechanic does not understand the problem and which ultimately means we are the unhappy lot.

Skoda now offers extended warranty - go for it. You can also opt for depreciation reimbursement add-on in your insurance policy to protect you from running-away accident repair costs. Look through forum for more info on the same. Some of the members here have it and one member is making good use it Smile.

In a nutshell, if you are willing to take care of her, she will keep you more than happy. Ask me.

Hi Robin,

Thankyou for you comments.
Am confused with the mileage too. Ofcourse, its for a long use. Everyone is commenting about clutch plate..Will it go out of order such a way? What will be the mileage for 1.2 and 1.6?

REGARDS

Ideally 1.2 should be more efficient than 1.6. But hard driving could change things since the 1.2 is a small engine and wouldn't handle well under strain. More so it is also a factor of your driving style. If you are of the more aggressive type then 1.6 may be better. Later on you may feel like having more power (like I do). ARAI quotes can give you an indication of the difference in the two engines. My guess is a difference of 1-1.5 kms a litre in ideal condition.

Clutch plate is a wearing item. Everytime you use clutch it wears off. Its life again depends on your driving style. 50,000 kms is the average life of a clutch plate in the driving conditions. Many can manage 100,000kms whereas many have screwed in less then 20,000 kms.
The problem with Skoda is that they almost always replace the flywheel while replacing the clutch plate, thus shooting the price.

Take a test drive. Elegance model has some extra safety features and I would suggest you go for it.

Do take the extended warranty and depriciation reimbursement add-on.
Take the trouble of inspecting the car before it is registered in your name.

Happy buying Smile

If you buying for the long term, I would suggest you buy the best you can. In this case 1.6 petrol elegance. From at least what I know and what Ajay posted here, spare parts prices have come down drastically and also the way Skoda priced the 2010 models, they are serious about lowering the cost of ownership.

Dealers often try to pass off re-painted,damaged, old, demo car to unsuspecting customers. Once the car is registered in your name it is hard to back out and you are stuck with it.

So when you make the payment, insist that you want to see the car before getting it registered. Look for worn-off things like tyre, pedals rubber linings in the door, dents, paint job etc. Go ahaead only when you are staisfied. Else back out from the deal, ask for a refund or a different car. Mind you this not specific to Skoda. It happens everywhere.

Its 100% true, but for SKODA, I inquired that, before delivery, while it goes for PDI, it goes for VAS, where the specific model is entered to the system, so then its visible to Skoda CC, and also they told, its then directly regulated by Skoda.

One main thing, how can they provide the manual with warranty book, as it should be filled by previous customer, if used.

But to this, ur point is very IMP as I am going to get my new 1.2 petrol elegance this week.

To be sure its a new, tell me if we can check the kilometer readings? or even it can be reset ?? as its a digital one.

The visibility to Skoda CC stuff is a fairly new thing.

There are many things that can still go wrong. Examples -
1. A new car gets a dent in transportation/handling. Is re-painted and delivered.
2. A new car may be fitted with poor quality rubbers etc. 1 in a 100 chance.
3. Tires could have bubble in them. Replaceable under warranty.
4. Car lying in the stock yard for too long. You will still be the first owner.
5. Car used for test drives before being delivered.

Odo readings can be tampered. Look for wear and tear signs in the tires and pedals.

You must check this thread from team-bhp.
