I find the headlights totally inadequate. Still under warranty and I do not want to break it. My models does not have fog lamps either.

Basically I need something to light up the road right in front so that I can avoid potholes, and something to light up the road up front while driving the unlit unmarked roads from Ooty to Cochin.

I wrote to Skoda customer care, got a couple of calls from Mumbai asking if anyone called, apart from that, there has been no response so far.

Any suggestions?

K_Ajay had replaced his stock headlights with a Phillips (I guess). I am not sure if that will void the warranty, esp if you take care of the wattage and all of the new bulb.

Fog lamps don't really help much in normal condition.

Hi John,

You could change the headlight to Philips Xtreme H4 60/55W headlight bulb, which will give about 50-55% more power than stock headlamps.

It won't void the warranty as I've checked it with Skoda before I bought it, but unfortunately I couldn't use it as my headlamp had a project beam setup and the Philips XV bulbs were a H4 make, whereas my headlamp kit needed H7.

If you find it, go ahead and buy it and use it. Post pictures, if you do, for the benefit of other members who might consider it too..

Cheers,
aK

Hi,
Even i found it to be very inadequate lighting. Hence i bought a pair of Phillips Extreme Power Vision H4 bulbs(60/55W). They don't do wonders, but will improve low beam by 40% and High beam by around 30%. Don't go by what they claim. But it is certainly better than the stock ones. These bulbs costs around 850/- a pair. Also, beware of duplicates if you are buying.

Sandeep,
Bangalore.

Hi ,
Just revisiting the topic of headlights... Smile
Even after installing the best bulbs in the market (Philips Powervision), the headlights are not good enough for night driving conditions. . . Sad Has anyone tried getting installed the H4 100W bulbs instead of the conventional H4 65/55W bulbs?

Last month I converted to H4 philips 100/90 with Relay kit, no wires were cut hence no voidance of warranty, now pretty happy with the illumination.

Hi fabfan,

It would be great if you could comment on:

Whether you got a relay installed(as i'm told that its a must)

Are Ceramic holders required instead of fiber?

What is the amount of heat generated? Do you feel that the reflectors might get damaged over a period of time? (The new headlamp set costs a fortune.)

Finally, wat was the cost of the new Philips 100/90W bulbs?

I have planned to install HID kit into the stock projector lamp kit in my headlight assembly. Mostly the 55W 4300K rated HID bulb.

Illumniation would be ~250-300% better than factory stock halogen bulb..

Will share details and photos when done.. Smile

Hi,

I changed the bulbs to philips ultra vision and stayed in the stock band, did not upgrade to 90/100 and also upgraded the fog bulbs to some imported brand bulb as phillips or osram was not availiable.

Phillips - Rs.950 pair (2 head lamp bulbs and 2 parking light bulbs) - all in the kit

Fog - Rs 500 a pair.

There is considerable brightness increase and moreover the light is white and catches everyone's eyes while i pass. Cool

DRL bulbs - Rs 1000 odd got it online as the stock DRL's were noticed by everyone on the road and they point out to switch of the light.

Hi,

Anybody has any idea whether we get fog lamps other than the dealers? The original ones from Skoda cost a fortune. . . Smile

I've been searching for those my self for my Ambiente, only available on superskoda.com (works out even more expensive as they're the monte carlo edition)

My quote for the stock ones at Autobahn was around 6k + god knows what theyll charge to fit them!

Cheers
