It has been more than two years since this forum started and we are still moving (limping now). Welcome to the new members and thanks for contributing. Old members - bad boys (and girls) . You need to come out of your slumber.
In order to revive some interest I plan to start a few interesting threads, mostly tech and safety talks. First off - Safety at petrol bunk.
Mobiles - a useful commodity but can be dangerous at certain places. We can debate the extent of damage the EM waves from the cell phones can cause to brain, ears, eyes, heart, bones, hair, nails, monitor, paper, pen (you never know when the pen might stop working) etc etc etc.....
Most bunks display the No Mobile sign and it is not without reason. The EM waves can help explode the gasoline vapors. Petrol just burns but it's vapor can explode causing serious damage to life and property. Never carry your phone near the nozzle of the petrol pipe even if you don't intend to use your phone. Even incoming signals are enough to do the job. Leave your phone inside the car if you intend to hover around the nozzle. For people who travel abroad and use the self-fill bunks - make a note.
Static current - a wretched thing. In dry weather (even other wise) it can easily be generated from certain materials like plastic. If you are operating the nozzle yourself make sure you do not go back inside the car before completing your work. The plastics in the car can help generate static current on you. Touching the nozzle can create enough spark to blow things.
Do not take the petrol vapors lightly. A can of vapor can be as explosive as TNT.
Shut down our engine while filling up. I haven't much to add here but it is a sensible thing to do. _________________ Robin |
