K&N, PIPERCROSS ..performance air filters...adviseable??

Has anyone installed a K&N or Pipercross air filter? I was wondering if it really improves the performance without any damage to the cylinders. I believe more air is let in as the filters are porous compared to stock paper filters..therefore dust might get in. Would love to have suggestions posted on this.

I am not sure how Skoda will service them, given that these filters do not need changing.
