Hi all
I had been driving a Santro for the past 4 years when I switched to Fabia in September last year. I was thoroughly enjoying the higher level experience till the time I started experiencing lower back pain when were on a road journey to Chandigarh. Then it got worse and I did not drive for almost a month and it was diagnosed to be a disc prolapse. Now the worse is over but whenever I drive Fabia, I experience tremendous pain in the back which is not there if I drive Santro.
Has anyone else noted this ergonomic problem with Fabia seats, seems that there is a little slant which makes ur lower back sink into the seat?? Pls enlighten me and also suggest if some adjustments have given some relief?

Punita,
Sorry to hear about your physical pain problems while driving but good to note the problems are over. I did find your issue with the lower back pain from the driving seat surprising, since I've not experienced the same or heard the bangalore club members complain so [not even over long journeys while driving].
However, since your experiencing it, you could try the following:
1. Use a car cushion under yourself while sitting or against your lower back when driving.
2. While at the back seat, you could use a car cushion under yourself since Robin has mentioned the under thigh support isn't straight and the seat itself reclines from the thigh position towards the lower back. This, over long journeys, may not be ergonomical to all..
If you're not against it, you 'may' also try a back support medical belt, on your lower back, while driving or using the rear seats. It will give you comfort while on the seat, and you can simply remove it off before you alight the car.
Let us know if this works; also hoping others who if have experienced the problem will pitch in with their ideas and suggestions. Good luck.

Sorry to hear about your problem. Hope it does not re-occur. Their is no problem with the quality of the seat. However, the position of the seat may be a problem. My wife had a backache last year which would get aggravated when she sat for long hours. She had to change the seating position of her seat (front passenger).
Good thing in Fabia is that you can adjust the front seats three-way. The height adjustable feature is very useful here. Try to figure out a comfortable driving position. I have had problems in Dzire (my bum aches on long sittings). Again, it is all about driving position. |

Punita,
I suffer the same problem that you have and i have a Santro too. The very reason that i went in for a Fabia is because i found it to be extremely comfortable. I consider the Fabia leagues ahead than the Santro on that front.
As Ajay pointed out. Try using back cushions or the belt if the pain is severe but the belt is best avoided since that will only weaken your back muscles over the long run. Amaron i believe makes some orthopedic back cushions.
Try raising the driver seat to a higher height if its low. I have seen that higher seating makes a world of difference for me. Wish the guys at Skoda added Lumbar adjustment to the seats.
Do let us know if you've tried all these out and if anything made a difference.
Take care.

Hi all
thanks so much for your quick responses..I guess cushion would be the best option..unfortunately I have a classic version of fabia which does not come with adjustable seat height. I have started some physiotherapy sessions from today so hopefully things would be better!!
it feels nice to have all u guys around..as trouble shooters..u all seem passionate about fabia which is understandable too..

In a new magazine (OPEN) there is an article on back pain which showcases Hormad Sorabjee the Autocar India editor and his tips on avoiding backpain.
As Robin mentioned in one of the post having seat hieght adjusted to maximum is better while driving.

Agree. Have both these cars.
Santro's seats are horrible compared to the Fabia's. I wish I could do something to the Santro's seats to make them better.
Anyways, one thing which surely would help is to make the backrest more 'upright' (like in Santro).
And also push the front seat as much forward, to your best comfort.
Some rearrangement on the seats should take care of this. You wouldnt even need a cushion, unless you want enhanced 'lumbar' support. _________________ ~ Jig
