Today I realized the importance of Owner reviews and experience. While on my way to the Yoga Class today morning, on taking a left turn in my Elegance 1.4 TDI, a loud shrieking periodic sound started from one of the Front Wheels (probably left). The sound had typical mettalic clatter and its periodicity would reduce with vehicle speed. Before I could skip my heart beat, there was a memory recall from one of the ownership reviews from a Fabia Owner in Bangalore who also experienced a similar sound while going on the Airport Road on a rainy morning. The problem discovered by the SKODA A.S.S. was presence of a stone between the brake pads and the Front disk plate. A simple procedure of reversing the car, made the stone fall off and the Vehicle was normal. I tried the same technique and to my wishful thinking the problem was this miscreant stone.
Do any of the other Fabia Owners have expreinced this phenomenon of stone comming in the way of disk plate and brake pads? _________________ Saket Kapur

Saket,
That's wonderful information you're sharing; thanks for it. Fortunately for me, I haven't had this issue. Very close to Airport road, live Robin and Netchef. Could it be one of them? I remember Netchef saying his road had a lot of stones/gravel due to constructions there. I wonder if it was him. May also well be some other member who was traversing the airport road.
At least, your note here will make me realize and know what to try, when I hear such a noise/disturbance. Thanks again.

same experiance to me too.
some four days back when i was cruising and doing 110 had to cross a bridge. and there it was some schreeching noise coming from somewhere down under from my beloved fabia.
but i didn't panick since as fanfabia said i too read in this forum it may be because of a stone in the disk gap..may have come from the joints you have in bridges. i just slowed down parked aside and banged all four wheels with my hand.
after that i moved her slowly there she is back to her own kind..apart from this small issue there is no issues so far for me..by god's grace.
and pals happy to inform you all that the odo reading has come to 12000
got the car in the last week of jan2010. this is a great car.(1.4 TDI)
thinking of taking her to the first service..will make a post of all the details
when it is done.
regards

Dear Sureshpn Do you also have Alloy Wheels? Also any reduction in engine oil while clocking 12000Km? _________________ Saket Kapur

Following are my observations in this regard.
1)Fabia with alloy wheels, appears to attract more stones, towards the brake pad.
2)Although Fabia has a Five Spoke Alloy, there is enough inter spoke space to suck in stones flying out of the wide 185/60/R14 Tyres.
3)With burning of tyre rubber and Fabia clocking 30K~35K this phenomenon should reduce as the tyre groove depth will reduce.
4)Till then check for pebbly road surface and be extra slow on same. _________________ Saket Kapur
