Question i have driven fabia 1500km .recently i got aproblem in my fabia 1,2 amby , i got a sound of metal piece striking from front right wheel and while moving rear & forward it was shifting i.e. sometimes for rear movement or forward. i thought that something is loose in the wheel then tapped the wheel and got same sound as if something is loose and brushing but the wheel was not loose .i contacted skoda service center and he told me that small pieces of stones have entered your disc brake and are not able to come out. he told me to bring the car slowly to service center if the stone comes out by itself ok otherwise we have to remove the front wheel and remove the stone.he removed the front wheel and got a very small piece of stone from brake holding area towards the inner side of wheel.he told that this problem has come in other fabia also.
i think the inner plate cover on the disc brake is not designed for indian roads as stones are plenty on our brokrenroads.shall we write the matter to skoda india.

I have heard about this in many other cars equipped with disc brakes including Altis. A lot of members here have experienced it too. Most of the time the stone falls off on its own. Sometimes it damages the inner plate resulting in other problems. I have experienced it all Smile.

The same thing has happened once in my Honda City as well.
If you are driving on a newly laid road there are more chances some stones may get stuck inside.

Today I realized the importance of Owner reviews and experience. While on my way to the Yoga Class today morning, on taking a left turn in my Elegance 1.4 TDI, a loud shrieking periodic sound started from one of the Front Wheels (probably left). The sound had typical mettalic clatter and its periodicity would reduce with vehicle speed. Before I could skip my heart beat, there was a memory recall from one of the ownership reviews from a Fabia Owner in Bangalore who also experienced a similar sound while going on the Airport Road on a rainy morning. The problem discovered by the SKODA A.S.S. was presence of a stone between the brake pads and the Front disk plate. A simple procedure of reversing the car, made the stone fall off and the Vehicle was normal. I tried the same technique and to my wishful thinking the problem was this miscreant stone.

Do any of the other Fabia Owners have expreinced this phenomenon of stone comming in the way of disk plate and brake pads?

1)Let not the shrieking Sound emanating from the wheel, disturb you that you panic and brake too hard. Remember hard braking may spoil/damage your disc brake permanently.
2)Gently take the car to the side of the road, by remaining on the tarmac.
3)Bring the Vehicle to a complete Halt and switch off the engine after the recommended idling to prevent coking in the turbo charger.
3)Start the engine and engage the reverse gear and take the vehicle backwards for a short distance and then take it forward after a brief halt.
4)By following the above procedure all stones picked up by your new tyres Apollo Acceler will be thrown out.
5)Regularly inspect your tyres for any embedded stones, eg. granite grits, which can cause a havoc.

The problem of stone falling between brake pads and Disc is more common in alloy wheels?

This happened to me once a fair while back. It's either the caliper/disc gap that welcomes a comely stone or the grooves in a vented disc (provided our cars have them).
To my good luck, it came loose on its own while reversing/manoeuvering out of a tight lane (I mention this because that particular move called for a decent amount of opposite locking, and the action might have helped dislodge the stone).

I would hate to drive the car with the damn thing obviously causing damage by scoring the disc.
