There is good news for all the Skoda owners, especially those who have been getting nightmares looking at the spare part prices. ICICI Lombard has started offering extended warranty for cars outside the warranty period. It covers all the components which the manufacturer would have covered under warranty. This scheme is pretty new (just 3 months or so) and is also approved by IRDA.

It is not a tie up between ICICI and Skoda but is more like ICICI – individual car owner relation (just like our normal car insurance). Another good point is that most of the Skoda dealers have some kind of association with the ICICI. A third year warranty will cost around 7.5k and 3rd and 4th together will cost around 15k. Also you need not buy insurance form ICICI to purchase the warranty policy. These products are independent of each other.

Contact: Salman , ICICI Lombard, ph – 09620210316

P.S – I am not an ICICI agent Smile. I got the contact from the gentleman named Ramesh Rajak, sales consultant, Tafe, Hosur road.

Robin,

Any other company apart from ICICI that you're aware of, selling extended warranties for Skoda cars? I'd be happy to see any company other than ICICI.

PLease share if you're aware. Thanks.

I don't have any other info on this. May be other companies will soon come up with such schemes.

BTW, any particluar reason for this aversion?

Thanks, Robin. Wonderful news. Especially for people who own brands of cars which are not as numbered as good ol' Maruti's are!

aK any particular reason for the less than happy notion about ICICI being the only provider at the moment atleast. I have never used ICICI so cant comment but any light thrown on the matter would be sincerely appreciated.

Robin/RM, most of my friends and a few family members have had umpteen problems and issues dealing with and in ICICI products. These range from insurance to banking to health insurance too.

You can talk to atleast 5 people who deal with ICICI and I'm positive atleast 2-3 will report problems [2 for sure]. I don't want to test them and burn my own fingers; I'd like to think I'm a little bit wise, learning from others mistakes.

Generally, I'd love to stay away from ICICI. Plus, ICICI [known for them problematic business practices] and Skoda [reputed A.S.S] and Skoda can be a dangerously potent combination. LOL..

Of course, this is only my thinking. It need not be the same for everyone and no one need to buy into my thinking. And, no offense to those who're customers of ICICI.

Cheers

True Skoda + ICICI will be a deadly cocktail. With Unethical ICICI it will be a risk. Better pray before starting the car than curse the combination Very Happy

That's humorous.

I would stay away from ICICI for loans (esp. home loan). But I have not heard many cases about motor insurance claims. I know their net banking is one of the best.

Warranty details likely to be out in a month’s time.
Skoda is not going to provide any warranty as their liability.
Rumors are it is going to be a tie up with Bajaj Insurance with strings attached.
So it’s anyone's guess how will the final product be, will it be appealing to go for and what parts will come under cover for the warranty.
How will they define a normal wear & tear and what transparency Skoda brings remains to be seen or else it may be eyewash.
