It's funny, and the irony doesn't escape me: when I wanted to access our site, when I needed to tell many Fabia yarns, the Gods and IS chaps and things kept me away. Now I got Zen. Ironically again, from China.

I'm here without my wheels, naturally, in a darned cold (and sterile) city called Nanning in the S W of China. The food's terrific (a story for another site perhaps), but the cars...oh the cars. Non-descript China-wagons rub shoulders with the three pointed star, Lexuses, heaps of Accords...Even saw some of the big Skodas around...obviously driven by some Kung Fu Shogun.

So, till I see you guys next, I'll sign off coz there's some exotica by way of food awaiting me.

Bon appetit

by th way, my left front window went crazy on me. It dropped out of its groove and wen all Rastafarian. They fixed it gratis

Left window: Fixed for free! Thats neat. I guess Tafe is trying hard to impress.

Sir, its a pleasure to see you back here. Its one of the reasons that i joined the forum in all honesty. Let that not distract from the fact that i genuinely love the lil beauty.

So you set foot in China and caused tremors of such a magnitude that some parts of our poor country were also shaken. Thank God that everything is well.

Sincerely hope to see you posting more of your sojourn. Really wish you could boot out some of those IS chaps too while you are at it Wink

Cheers and enjoy the majestic cuisine, just the very thought makes me drool.

Aah, Monsieur Netchef. From china land! Google recently reported a high usage of Chinese looking up exotic words and ways to master the english language. Didn't have a clue they were only preparing for you.

Wonder if you're there for business or pleasure [F1]. Enjoy the food and bring us some snaps if you manage to pop-out that lens cap.

祝您玩得愉快

Gents...pardon that I started another thread about my Nanning story. I completely forgot about the first one.

Yessir AdminJi, we exchanged smileys or something on the Airport Rd and it seems like twas only yesterday. I've been here 8 days and will be leaving tomorrow for Bangalore with a day's stopover in HK.

Wish I'd timed it for the Shanghai F1...BUT Sad

ps. If it's possible to merge my other thread with this one, please do so as I see no sense in having two (it's like seeing double).

Thanks, RM. RM reminds me of Ransome & Marles-- one of the greatest bearing manufacturers EVER. Stuff of legend. As Brit as King Arthur or the Tower of London. On British bikes if you had anything other than R&M bearings in your engine twas akin to putting a Seiko digital clock into a Rolls Royce. Pure blasphemy. Or eating Sushi with Sambhar! ..you get my drift.

Yeah, I hope to write...earthquake or no. And I saw a 1.4 Fabia today in Oxford Blue...lovely colour, but no clue if it was a diesel.

Neehau!! KA, Esq. But they block Facebook out here and I found a heap of underground siites that give one a workaround. The expats in these parts have really closed ranks to beat the system.

Pleasure. Pure pleasure. Food's excellent but you gotta be a bit adventurous. Hope I can get you guys some pics. Till then, au revs.
RG

ps. sorry. can't multi-quote.

It's been a WOW travel. The lights the fun the food the city the rituals the protocols the people, the challenge of language, the liquor all have a charm, a kink that gets them each a chapter in this Rao vs Ming episode. Like Kramer vs Kramer or DEA vs Colombian Drug Lord, both have an argument, but that doesn't stop one from visiting both camps during the proceedings and nibbling a bit on cactus/snorting some of the evidence. Exchanging notes with the Attorneys. Both sides proffer a story, a unique context.

This is a paced yet neat and sterile city- from what I've seen of it. It's
called Nanning and it's near the Vietnam border in S W China. I've even tried their local Rice based liquor and discovered it's how the non-hirsute Chinamen put hair on their chestst. NEVER smoke while drinking the stuff or you'll be a flame thrower the US Army would gladly hire for skirmishes such as Guadalcanal where they preferred smoked Nips.

But I digress. Fabia, Oh Fabia- a vicarious pleasure as I obviously don't have my wheels here.
Firstly the roads are strewn with cars I don't recognize, and those I do from players that play on our turf as well- often come with higher specs than they sell us poor Indians. Gotta make a PIL out of that.

I have seen a few BIG bro Skodas here-- ie Big bro to our Fabias, and precisely 4 Fabias in the 8 days I've been in Ming residence. AND, guess what, one of them had a 1.6 badge. Bloody remiss of them to leave us out when they were passing around the goodies. The TAFE guys did mention we could expect a 1.9 or 2.0 ltr diesel soon, but I haven't heard further.

Back soon.

ps. the irony isn't lost on me that I find it easier to blog on our site from China than I do while in idli-dosai harness; let's put it down to Zen Smile

Sir,

Thank you for the great honor though for the life of me i never knew that. Had to Google to find out more. Now am an enlightened soul. They were born in 1900, a tad longer than the time i have weighed dear Mother Earth down.

Keep posting sir. Its sheer reading nirvana.

RM
No worries, mate. Tell us your story-though if you have already done so in these pages, you must forgive me for not stumbling across them as I have yet to deep dive into our BizHat home.

I bet I'll find corral and striped yellow fish and swaying seaweed and glowing jellyfish and other exotica there ...probably in the 'technology' section Smile

I'm leaving this evening so arriverderci or something.
Take care,
RG

It seems like twas just yesterday that I braved China Light & Fantastic Airline or whatever it's called and set foot on Red soil. Seems mere hours ago that I was accosted by intimidating, green-clad soldiers and hustled into a steel vault to be interrogated. Seems just seconds ago that the tension in the air eased a tad when one soldier who sauntered in 1) turned out to be a pretty lass 2) she was smiling...3) I was released into the grey wanton and Kung foo beyond, left to my own inventions and things for cuisine, wimmens, wine and other accoutrements required by general public to keep alive and smiling.
And smile I did.

Has anyone else here travelled to China? I'd love to hear views and feedback as it's pretty likely folks would have seen and smelled other than that which yours truly was serendipitously launched at...

the FOOD, the food...anyone out there?
I know I'm enamoured enough of the place to want to visit again, and would certainly like to see other necks of their woods. Like India, I'm led to believe they exhibit a great, giant diverse and polarised spectrum when it comes to everything from food to customs, dialects to dress. Must be interesting. Can't therefore say any one China visit was typical in any way.

Never been to China, actually never been out of India. But I sure would love to explore the dragon land as much as I would love to visit Europe.
