I am getting a humming noise in background while listening thru Aux in.
I tried all options , different players , different cables.
I got the cowan J3 yesterday and I see the same issue , even after songs converted without compressing the file.
I have this issue with Ipod Nano , Fujitsu PDA , Nokia mobile and Cowon J3.
Have to rush to service station as warranty expiring soon in couple of days.
Any ideas where is the problem .
Same songs are perfect over headphones and while playing thru DANCE (mp3 player)

Are you playing these players off their main batteries or do you have them powered off the Aux power when playing songs?
In case you are keeping them charged while playing back, try disconnecting the power cable and try.
May not be a solution but this is something that came to my head with whatever info i had.

I had a call with our Expert Admin (Robin) before I went to skoda service and he rightly said there will be some settings.
Indeed there are three settings (Setting of the input sensitivity) Aux 1 to Aux 3 when we press the arrow tab in DU. So we have to adjust the frequency / settings to get the best output.Aux 3 is for mp as per DU manual , but its still not working 100 % for all songs of differrent compression and formats.
I would like to know what format (including compression) is the best within mp3 , wma, FLAC type etc .
I have to find out the optimum setting for the dance unit or I have to stic to CD.
So its not just the cables to get the best of the Aux in.
Either way the output from Cowan J3 is simply superb with headphones but not with the Aux in.
I am using the player which is fully charged and I have no option of charging in car.Though the battery life is 50 hrs (single charge) for songs so charging in car is never needed.

If I'm not wrong (and I don't know if I am or not) the Aux port 'does not' power your audio output device. It hasn't happened with my classic iPOD nor my phone blackberry.
I wish to be corrected if it is otherwise [which then means my aux port isn't functioning as intended.. Nooooooooooooo].. lol

Thanks for the info. Now i remember about the settings that you talk about. Had completely forgotten about those.
I need to start exercising those grey cells now. They ain't like they used to be.

Sir, thank you,but I am no expert. I too have often struggled with the controls of the Dance. What impresses me most is the seperate Dance manual. It is neat and precise.
Did you know that there is a security option for the Dance system?

ak,
I am surprised but i had posted a reply to this but for some reason i cant see it now.
What i had mentioned was Aux power and by that i meant the 12V DC (Cigarette Lighter) socket. There 'may' in some cases be a humming sound that is produced if one charges the player at the same time while playing music of it.
Sorry if i caused any confusion, aK. Your Aux port works just as it was intended to.

Sir, thank you,but I am no expert. I too have often struggled with the controls of the Dance. What impresses me most is the seperate Dance manual. It is neat and precise.
Did you know that there is a security option for the Dance system? |
High time i read the manual in detail.

Finally the distortion / Humming noise is gone -
best setting is to have 3/4th volume on the ipod or mp3 player and then choose almost any vol in the unit and we get no or min levels of distortion.
Now I am able to tune into any setting in Dance Unit from Aux 1 to aux 3.
I tried following with less compression formats using APE , OGG,FLAC and WMA 9.
because the J3 Cowon has 36 preset equilizer settings plus 4 user settings I find the best effect in the car similar to hometheater effect.
A good pair of speakers at rear will help , any inputs on how to get this done and best options without hurting the purse beyond 5000 - 6000 Rs.

The best option for rear speakers is to get the connectors to the HU for the rear speakers from the service station. It is available now for 600 bucks or so at Skoda service centres. This way you won't be powering your rear speakers from the front speakers.
I got everything done at Vinayaka for 5500 bucks with Skoda speakers. Skoda speakers are very average. Better to install branded speakers available in the market.
These connectors are basically set of pins with wires which go in the HU slot meant for powering the rear speakers. These pins were not available earlier.I am not sure if these connectors are available in the outside market.

I knew, I told you so and even tried to save you.. But of course, you preferred the lesser hassle option. No worries. You can still change the speakers when they tear our or when something bad happens to them.
Hope to audition those rear fillers someday.

Either you can go in for the same setup that Robin has [which I still don't recommend; Robin had his reasons], or atleast take cues from his post [about how average those Skoda speakers are (maine pehle se bola tha)] and go in for better brands under 5K.

Options are many between 4 and 7K [you can see how slowly the cost keeps creeping up; that's how car audio is]..
I can recommend JBL blindly because I've use their products and they're awesome [but not the best]. Their Infinity range is great, but I've not put that down in the list above, as I'm uncertain if it is available at 6K..
You can pick any JBL speakers from a good dealer in JC road for between 3-4K, should not cost much, unless they're component speakers. But don't go in for components, you don't need the treble blaring at the back.
Buuuuttttttt, before you plan to do all that, here is what you must do.
1. Check the Skoda rear speaker stock size and see where the screw markings are. If possible, sketch out it's diameter on a sheet of paper and also note the size marking from the speaker's box [5 1/2, 51/4, 6, these are in inches].
2. Keep that sheet with diameter and screw markings and see if the stock speakers of the above brands fit the same drawing. This is to ensure you don't have to screw [and I mean literally, lol] with the speaker's stock setting for mounting it [like modifying door pads, making wooden mounts to accommodate bigger size speakers and such].
Once you find a speaker that fits, audition the audio quality and choose it. If none of the above brand speakers fit the stock setting, it's unfortunate, but you can give a try with Sony's speakers, as the last resort. If everything else fails, erase all evidence that you tried all this, and just go install Skoda's stock speakers. 
Hope this helps [I'm sure it can confuse too].

All that is fine but you will still need the connector pins to the HU from Skoda service centre. You will have to rely on them for one more reason
 .
Best bet is to take the skoda service guys in confidence, buy your own speakers and let the service guys install it. Or if possible buy the connectors from them.
To make any real noticeable difference in the audio quality, you will need to spend quite a bit and I was in no mood to do that. I was fine with the quality of audio from the stock speakers. The problem is that they are only in the front and people at rear feel a bit disconnected. The Skoda speakers does its work in this case. Plus I was too tired to run around looking for speakers so decided to stick with them. Additionally if something goes wrong with anything they have touched in the process I can always catch the service guys, there is a 2 year warranty on the installation/speakers.
This is my weird reasoning. If you are an audiophile, this not an option .
