Hi Guys,

My Fabia, claasic version has a knob inside to rotate the mirror.

Around 6 months back the Left Rear View mirror assembly was not working due to which it was really inconveniant to try and do the setting manualy by pressing the mirror. I got it fixed by changing the assembly which was under warranty. Cost at that time was Rs. 2943/-

Now today the right rear view mirror assembly is also facing the same problem. Will have to show it to the doctors again and get the transplant done.

It really is a shame that these parts are so fragile and expensive that despite very delicate handling they are breaking away.

Will keep you posted when i'll get it replaced.

Got the assembly changed. The cost of assembly was Rs. 2950/- which was under warranty.
They have charged me for 6 clips. Rs. 80/- in total.

Has any one else also have faced the same problem?

No, no problem yet, must be a one-off thing. If the new one also develops a problem, we might need to check into the matter..

Its good to know that you got the things done under warranty but the point of concern is this that the assembly and the power window switches are really fragile.
My dealer advised me to be careful with the water being poured inside the power window switches at the time of washing as this can lead to a fault in the switch working.

Rightly said.Among all the cars we have this car is definitely delicate darling. One trip too little dusty area and pollen filter is choked. Then both side ORVM assembly and power window switch.
These parts are very fragile and thoughts about the cost of maintenance of this car after warranty period is giving me nightmares.. Razz

I really am looking forward to the scheme of extended warranty for this car, but sadly there is no news yet from Skoda!

The driver side rear view assembly had gone awry. Went to the dealership today and had it replaced under warranty. No questions asked. Took me around 30 mins to get it done.
I asked them whether this was a regular feature with Fabia's but as expected they replied in the negative.

There is a pattern here for sure. I just hope they do not resurface, esp when out of warranty Smile.

Are you aware of any third party providing extended warranty? There used to be ads in Autocar about warrantydirect or something. Any idea if they are still in business?

Since this is in warranty, I don't see a problem. If out of warranty, ask the service guy to open the mirror case and see if the conducting metal has gone lose. This is easy to fix, just twist the metal so that it makes contact with what it should (just like in our good old torch).

I came to know about this when I rubbed the left mirror in an iron pillar (in the Leela Palace parking). The upper part of the case flew off in 2 piece and the mirror was left hanging. Interestingly, nothing broke. I could fix everthing back in place. That is when I saw the conducting metal and it could be possible that they become lose. Unfortunately I don't know how to open the case Sad.

more than extended warranties, once out of warranty, it might be a good idea to get to know a few smart independant garages / mechanics who know how to 'fix' stuff .. it would be doable in most cases. these are not rocket parts afterall.

the service center ppl are just good at 'replacing' them, which is where it hurts the pocket big time.and gives them fat revenue margins.

as seen from this months ACI parts list, these RVMs are one of the costliest parts in the fabia.

I agree completely and this is something that i had known before i picked up the car. My common sense was clouded by the extremely high quality of the car with all its assorted attachments. The word 'repair' does not seem to exist in their dictionary its only 'replace'.

Makes all the more reason for some more insurance folks; if not Skoda to come up with an extended warranty policy.

This makes it much hard a dent to pocket , wear of clutch / Brakes is fine , but malfunction of Mirrors due to electronics hurts , as its out of our control.
Looks like after AC's , OVRM mirror failures are more in Fabia.
I am now scared to used the defogger / heat option in mirror during rains , just look front and drive Smile

Dont want to touch that knob.

Fabiosi,

Today when i reached office in the morning and shut the driver side door after getting out, the driver side rear view mirror just fell off. Surprised It was fine all the way till i got to work.

The entire assembly is still there just the mirror has fallen off. I have not visited the service center as yet but has this ever happen to anyone of you.

It's like me loosing my hair but at least i can put that to a hereditary cause. But this, i just cant explain. How can the mirror just drop off ??? I don't see any sign of trauma anywhere.

Weird. Really weird.

Was it ever tinkered with by the service guys? You did have problematic rear view mirror.
Someone else also had reported a similar incident. Do not recall who - Uneet, was it you?
