Hello Guys...
Iam in a look out for a Home theater for our master bedroom.
Specifically Iam not too keen on 5.1 channel purely because of the wiring issues therefore have decided to go for 2.1 channel.
Options in hand are:
1. BOSE - 321 series --- The range starts from Rs. 68000/- onwards. The sound quality is really considering that it does not have the sarround speakers. Price is the issue.
2. ONKYO - LSV-501 --- This model can be bought for around 42000/- after discounts. Again the sound quality is pretty decent. Not too sure if its worth the money.
Iam not even considering brands like Sony, LG and Samsung mainly because these are not specialized audio companies.
Any other suggestion would be welcomed. My comfort zone is around 30k |

Hello Friends,
After waiting for your opinions I have finally put my pen down on Onko - HTS-5205.
This is a 5.1 channel system with 120w rms/channel having an active subwoofer.
More details will be followed up soon. |

Hi Uneet,
Hope you're doing well.
If you only need a 2 channel, my options are as such. I will just post my recommendations and you can take a look at them as you like; I won't be able to restrict myself to the 30K limit though, as not many good ones will fall under than price, I'm afraid.
Also, for ease of understanding, I'll split the components.
Floor/Front Speakers: In a 2.1 HT setup, you only have the floor standers or Floor speakers, as their called, and then a sub-woofer. My recommendation:
1. Floor Speakers: You can try the Wharfedale Diamond 10 series front speakers, if the brand is available in your city. Wharf[edale] is a very good brand, from the UK and sold in India with B&W. I have my entire HT speakers from Wharf, and I'm supremely satisfied [mine is Diamond 8 series; i have for more than a year].
You can also look at brands MordauntShort and Pioneer, for floor speakers.
2. Sub-woofer: Unless you want heart pounding thump, you can look at Wharfedale SW-150 subwoofer, which would cost about 18K. This is very good for cinema and music. The SW-250 is also good and wonderful, but costs almost 36K [well beyond your total budget].
Apart from Wharf, I can recommend MordauntShort again for Sub and also Polk Audio [their model DSW 400 is amazing but I'm not sure how much it costs; my cousin has it and I've heard it, and it's mind blowing].
Another strong subwoofer performer is the PSB brand. They're Canadian but I've heard they're available in India [my friend, whose house is in Coimbatore, Tamilnadu has a PSB woofer].
Uneet, if you can keep the budget flexible upto 40 or 45, you can land great speakers and a sub for your bedroom, that you can keep for several years, without a need for upgrade.
I hope my recommendations help. Gimme a shout if you need any help..
Besta luck, mate!

Hi Ajay,
Thanks for your kind help (though a bit late)
Finally the deal was done for the HTS5205 for 33k.
The performance is good for my room size of nearly 12*16
I have heard high about Wharfedale but opted for onkyo due to couple of reasons.
Firstly the after sale support is much better as onkyo have their dedicated support team in India and secondly as this being my first reasonably high end system, I plan to buy an another one for the Living room in some time to come. I wanted to play more safe and become more knowledgebale during this period to be able to spend more than 50k next time.
I really appreciate your kind help which would be surelly required next time. |

No problem Uneet.. We'll discuss more when you have a next purchase coming up.. The Onkyo of course will do well, no worries on that either. _________________ Peace precedes Prosperity.. |

Guys,
I was going through very informative thread (though a little old one) on Home theaters.
Iam sure this will change your perception towards some known high end brands.
