Comrades,
Its been some time that i have posted anything on the site and sadly the reason for that is that i parted ways with my Fabi. Loved her but could'nt bear to drive 60 kms everyday with a car that returned me 7 kms to the litre... on Petrol that is.
Now coming to the more important reason for this post. All feedback is eagerly solicited. A good friend of mine, a doctor to boot, is planning on picking up the Fabia 1.2 Petrol. Now the only issue is that he stays a good 120 kms away from the nearest dealer. He stays in a remote town in Kerala.
He is planning on taking the Skoda Shield cover too.
The concern here is if he has a problem, and a problem where the car refuses to budge, would this Skoda Shield cover towing costs for 120 kms. And has anyone had any experience with Skoda Shield.
I was disuading him from going in for the Fabia because of this singular reason only. He loves the car, i love the car but i hate the dealers and he slowly has begun to share my feelings on this matter.
Now bearing this in mind, i would like my brethren here to tell me whether he should go in for the car or should he not.
Please do reply soon since he needs to pick this car up quick.

I dont agree that skoda gives 7 km pl. I have run my htp 2100+ kms purchased in april 2011 and run mostly in delhi city normal roads and got between 12-13 kmpl. on average . Many of of other car owners like dezire/ swift/ i20 etc my friends envy me for this mileage.

You dont need to agree mate. My car was a Jan 2010 car. And what i got was what i got after putting 5k on the clock.
Enjoy the ride. She is a great lil machine.

Don't fight Guys.
In SKODA manual written, use ur car for a long drive, as the FE comes effective after 10 kms, also to that if the road is clear, as in Indian condition u can't go in 4th gear more offen.
I am using the latest SKODA model, even I got a FE of 17.8 L/ 100 KMS and also 5.6L/100KMS. So for SKODA it may happen that u can get a FE what u hav never expected.
I tried to get the both in city drive where most of drive was in 3rd and 10% was on 4th gear.
A good FE works on mathematics. U drive at any gear but keep ur RPM/SPEED as mentioned by company to get the FE best for that gear. if u rev more than 3000 rpm in 1st gear u will get 50L/100KMS.
Its a riding habit and the best rider should get the best mileage. I like to overdrive, so I usuall get 12.5L/100KMS in city drive. |

Forum has been in a static mode for quite some time. It is sad that you had to let go your Fab. Please be a regular visitor, nothing will please us more.
Skoda Shield - As far as I remember, they do cover the towing but i am not sure if the cost for towing 120 kms will be covered in their limit. They have a fixed limit of Rs 1500 or so. Exact amount can be known from skoda. Buying a car in a place with no dealer can be tricky. Being a Skoda owner I would choose something more convenient in this case. Car refusing to budge may be extreme but even in normal cases, just imagine driving 120 kms one way. We are lucky to have two dealers in Bangalore. It is always helpful to be in such a situation.
Our good friend sreekumar is from kerala. You can PM/mail him for more clarity.
Regarding FE - quite a lot of old petrol Fabia had FE issues. The new one is lot better in that sense.
