Hi All,

If u r having much idea on SKODA, then answer the below:

1. What type of engine oil is used in FABIA, if can say for both Petrol and Diesel engine then its better.
2. What quantity required (exact).
3. What is the rate/ltr.
4. What does SKODA provides (brand with specification).
5. If I can get it outside SKODA SC.
6. Is it going to void warranty? If yes, then how and why ??

All these relate to SKODA made in 2010 Q4.

These are my primary questions, I have a long list, will write once I get a response on these first.

You can get answer to most of your question here in the photo of the bill.

The oil is shell helix.
You can get it from a shell bunk.
You can get the oil changed outside but remember that the engine oil filter change should be accompanied, this may not be avaiable outside the Service Center. It is ok if you just intend to top up.

The actual quantity should be mentioned in the manual (3.2 ltr for 1.2 HTP, I guess), this for the minimum level on the dipstick. SC charges 4 ltrs flat. You can argue on that and pay only for what was consumed. You can def. save a few hundred bucks here.

Skoda is keeping track of all the work done on it's cars. In case of any problem they can easily wash off their hand and shift the blame on you.

As per I enquired, SKODA had stopped selling SHELL oil.
Now they ship with CASTROL.
My car oil cap is marked for CASTROL.
But the point is, the type, as I can clearlly see in ur bill, one is showing SHELL Helix ultra, other is 5W40, and both are different. Both are for diff standards. If SKODA SC is making a deal of diff quality, then why we users can't fill from outside ??

When I enquired SKODA SC, they told, they will fill now with Castol Magnetec, which costs 1000/LTR, as per the SC and the quantity is 3 ltr. I enquired the same in outside, magnetec comes 990 per 3 lit. So what they say I can't believe. I asked for the best Castrol oil, that is EDGE, which comes 4700 per 4ltr, after discount its 3700.

So my question is, I will do the service in SC, but the mobile to be filled should be provided by me.

SKODA in any manual don't mention the OIL grade, just mentioning VW501 like that.

Last thing, againg I goggled for VW grade, and found its a personalised oil as per VW made by SHELL/CASTROL/VOLVOLINE.

So tell me what to do?????????????

Also, u told that SC keeps a record of service records, is it even after warranty??
If so, then if only engine problem occurs by mobile, then we can urge by checking the grade, as same oil the SC is giving, what I want to by from outside.

I can't see a point from ur bill, iits simply monopoly ol marketing as done by HONDA and HERO motors.

If ur two bill differs with two type of oil, then where is the SC or SKODA standars..??

Your concerns are genuine my friend. Unfortunately I don't see any light at the end.

Same oil will def. cost less outside. We are being ripped off for sure. Moreover were is the garranty that they actually change the oil every time during service, unless you have your prying eyes on them. I have heard of this problem outside skoda too.

I case of my bills, the two engine oils were charged differently so I am assuming they are of different grade. The cheaper one being semi -sythetic or something.

Skoda tracking your service details - This may come in handy if Skoda wants to extend what they call as 'goodwill warranty'. I have heard of cases where Skoda had waived 50% cost on the spare under the goodwill warranty. But for that your car has to be regularly serviced by them and a lot will depend on the dealers mood too.

I know it is a circle, and a one that we don't like.

I don't think 990 per 3 ltr oil is of the synthethic type. The rate sounds more like that of the mineral oil.

@Pravin - can you comment on this?

Any Shell oil will start around Rs 600 per liter. So for the matter Castrol or other variety. For Diesel its around 3.8 liters. I have paid from 600 to 800 plus per ltr. over the past 3 years for oil.
SC refills oil based on the annual running of the car and number of total running done.
Its recomended to use Syntheric only after 10000kms or so as in Shell website. Normally Vinayaka uses a blend of Mineral and Synthetic oil.
And it is Shell brand as to what I saw in the drums in my last visit in July.
Skoda recommends only Shell , Dont know if this is a policy change.

I make a point to see @ SC the old oil is drained before they fill new oil.

Now a days every VW group cars come with CASTROL, its written in OILCAP.

The rate I mentioned is for a start of Synthetic oil, again rate depends on type and technology. SKODA SC told its Magnetec as per company standards.

The edge oil goes upto 1000/ltr, which is as good as Shell Helix Ultra.
Ultra differs from 5W40 oil in a lot aspects.

Thing is that, need to know, is there any standards following, as I don't want SC to mess with my car.

Also as all u know, 2010 later cars come with a service interval of 1yr/15k kms. So its always advisable to use only premium synthetic oil, else mineral blend oil will make a deposit on the lower area of oil tank.
I think urs are serviced at 3 moth interval. so its a point to keep a relation with SC.
As per now I visited VW/SKODA/AUDI SC, and what I found a very few cars are coming for service, when I asked, the SC told, as most cars now have a longer life for service change so there is a less rush, and u can get ur car on same day. whereas in Maruti 2 day is min.

As u are all old users, so I asked this question, that how to know the grade what company recommends and how to get it verified even if I use SC oil.

Difficult to verify which oil SC will use , one can ask the manager what oil they will refill.

Trust is the only factor here and every where for other brands also.
If there is no major repairs , cars can be serviced in flat 3-4 hrs if you ensure all activites are done in a flow.
Else car stays for a day at service center , but work is done for 2hrs. Very Happy

Swastikp,

As Pravin mentioned, it's quite difficult to find out and verify the oil they use; we're hardly allowed inside the SC floor area at Skoda SCs, as is with most other brand's SCs. Our only proof of oil change is what is mentioned on the service bill.

Like for example, until you'd posted, we had no clue that Skoda has changed to Castrol as the recommended lubricant supplier. Most of us only get to know when someone like yourself experiences this and posts is here, or when we go for service ourselves.

My next service is only in Jan 2012, so I can find out and share any details required, only by then.

Cheers,
aK

Again I got some more questions to ask, which I think more important.

I recently heard, every car sold, comes with a 200 to 500 ml of final color coat for any scratches if there or car gets some, used to remove.
I inquired this with some broker-dealer person, he said that each car comes with a spray or liquid, with a clear coat spray if any car have. The news is unofficial. While unloading the car, when it gets first checkup, then the SC keeps those, making users to come to SC for a small scratch to make money.

If I am not wrong, then can anyone get a clue for SKODA especially for Fabia, so then I/we can make some news to get the right thing..

Reply ASAP.
