Hi,
I have a simple doubt - while i was buying the car the dealer told me that if we get any modification(electonics/electrical) from an outside vendor then the cars warranty will be void if the person cuts any wires in the car to do some adjustments, but while i bought the car i got the reverse parking sensor and reverse horn fit by the dealer and i saw that the person cut the wire and did some taping work(though the person who fit the accessories was some vendor in understanding with the showroom guys)
1) so now does that mean i am void of warranty?
2) When does this warranty thing comes to play?
BTW i did check in one of the shops in JC road (MoTOWN) the guy said that recently they were fitting some electronic gadget for some civic and while they were doing this due to some short circuit and few wire tampering the airbags boomed out, so he refused to do any electronics modification other than cosmetic stuff for my car ;;;; so guys beware/careful
Regards
Santosh

Hi Santosh,
What the dealer has said, is true. If we do any after market modifications or accessories fitment where any wire has been cut, then the manufacturer nullifies and voids all warranty on the car.
In your case, the dealer himself has gotten an outside vendor to fit the reverse parking sensor. If you have a receipt from him which mentions purchase and fitment of the accessories, then you're covered, in case dealer states any issues in the future regarding warranty. If you don't have a receipt, then you need to maintain a good relation with the dealer, no other choice. Because if you go to any other dealer's SC, they'll point out that wires are cut and taped..
Warranty will come into play when any of the parts mentioned in warranty coverage, goes bust and doesn't work, due to a human or non-human failure. If your vehicle is under warranty period, the SC will replace it FOC [free of cost] but if the warranty is expired [or void] then you'll have to replace that part out of your pocket. That's the entire deal about warranty.
About your warranty's validity, I would say don't worry about it for now. Just maintain good relationship with your dealer. Specially if you don't have a receipt stating they provided and installed the parking sensor and horn. If you have such a receipt, then not much to worry, I would think.
In any case, anyone who has gotten an after market fitment from their dealer, I think, is the best person to comment on the warranty angle, in this scenario.

Then you have to tread very carefully and in a friendly manner with your SC/dealer, pal.
Mostly, there should not be any issues..

Why don't you try to get a letter stating that the sensors were installed pre-delivery or at the dealer. The earlier you get it done the better.
I recently went with a friend to buy Spark. In one of the invoice or paper they had mentioned accessories that the dealer would be providing (sensors included). A letter of this type should be sufficient. _________________ Robin |

I feel its too late to ask and the person who sold the car has also left the dealer and i dont think they will respond even though i will ask them(But i am thinking what to ask them or how to ask them, certainly they will ask why do you want the letter etc etc.....) |

^ Just tell them that you want it to protect your warranty as it was it was done at the dealer ship. I guess they may not be willing to do that but no harm in trying. _________________ Robin |

True. Best left without asking as they'll get fishy now and go defensive on the issue. Only my opinion.
