I had picked up this Tube called Scratch Doctor from the US. It was supposed to remove scratches of the mild variety and i read quite a bit of praise about it.
My brand new baby has been given some signatures by some demonic, demented two legged freaks belonging to the Homo Sapien clan. People just dont seem to be able to keep their hands to themselves.
I tried the Scratch doctor thing just the way the instructions asked me to and to no visible effect. Very very disappointed to say the least.
Do you nice folks know of any other gels, creams or lotions that could take those small ugly scars off my lil beauty.

RM,
Go to any leading car accessory shop [one that typically also stocks or sells car wash and wax products] and ask for 'Rubbing Compound'.
Please be careful to apply 'Very Little' of it on the scratches and polish it with a cloth.. Your small and very light scratches should disappear.
Again, I reiterate that do not apply too much rubbing compound as excessive usage will affect and also erode your clear coat & also paint [sometimes]...
Hope this helps.

aK,
I have a small container of Rubbing Compound but i have never been able to muster the courage to use it because of the very concerns that you have mentioned. But then i think its time i gave it a shot.
Darn the color black, every single scratch shows.

Haha.. That's why I kept away from Black. It also draws the maximum heat when parked outside garage or without shade.
I have used rubbing compound 'once' to the left ORVM on a dark patch like scratch, which was caused by another car that brushed aside mine. This was used at a car wash shop where the washing attendant convinced me the clear coat won't erode and it will only take off the black brushed patch.
And that's exactly what happened. He used very little, very smartly and the clear coat remained. I recommend using the RC but very carefully, please.

These dark stuff are not really a scratches. These can be removed with polishes as well. You don't need a rubbing compound. Real scratches are almost impossible to be removed. Most of the times what can actually be removed is scratch like appearance caused by paint or such residues transferred to your vehicle from the other object/car you rub against. |

hi!there,
Agreed. Most times in situations where a car rubs against yours, it would be scuff marks from the offending car that can be rubbed off easily.
What i am concerned here is with a proper scratch, the kind, some extremely itchy fingers put with a decadent key. Or when some invigorated souls try to etch their expressions using my car as the drawing board.
I had seen an advt some time ago on the telly about a product that looked like a wide tipped sketch-pen and can actually remove those scratches. For the life of me i cant remember the name of the same and as to where it could be available. On TV it worked beautifully.

Kartik,
Thanks for the info. I have used Com Paint before and there was a perceptible difference between the colors. And this was not even on a metallic coat of paint.

Meg's Swirlx is no good on even very light swirls, if applied by hand. I have it and have used it, but without good effect when used by hand. Maybe with a DA or a rotary, it could work better at removing at least light swirls.
Have heard people say Meg's ScratchX is better than SwirlX, in a way that it's more effective at paint correction, but Meg's Ultimate Compound is the ultimate stuff. That, definitely works.
Let me know for any more.
