For people who want the DRL light to be turned on in their car: simple:
1) 7.5A fuse
2) User manual
Open the manual and search for the page where in the fuse diagrams are given, see the fuse diagram for right hand driving.
The fuse box is right under the steering wheel, you will have to use a bit of force to open it which is shown in the manual.
now see on the top right hand side of the fuse section you will see that the fuse is missing and now check in the user manual for the same, you will see this point is used for DRL,(Fuse point no 7) now put one 7.5Amps fuse thats it close everything and zoom away.
i will give the screen shot for this
* I am not responsible for any damage you do to your car or for the warranty, please do this carefully, i did the same for my fabia and it started to work, since i did not have the fuse i had to go to the service center and get the fuse fixed.
Hope this helps some one. [/img] |

Hi Santro652 [hey, how do you have a santro name in your forum handle, when you're in a Fabia forum]??? lol, kidding
Do you know if the DRL feature is present in cars prior to 2011 [say, 2008/2009 models]? If yes, I'd be keen to explore and activate the DRL feature too. Buuuuttt, I doubt the feature is there in my 'extint' 1.4 Petrol MPI..
Do let me know and yes, images would help everyone else too.
Thanks

Hi Ajay,
I had typed my email ID as forum name and unfortunately unable to change it to my name now planning to create another email ID fabia652@gmail.com
AAh DRL can be fitted to any vehicle in fact i did a bit research and have a list of links which might be helpful, in one of these links some old timer has activated DRL for his retro car. I think you will need a cable known as DRL cable and the DRL light, use some time by reading through the links and you can get this ON. if you have noticed there are few cars on bangalore street which have LED's glowing in day and night which is unfortunaltely not exactly DRL to have exact functionality o DRL you will need the additional cable for your car.

Hi All,
DRL is not a feature to show off, its just a mandate rule used in some countries ( I guess in Europe) that even in day time vehicle must use DRL to coverup dusky area, especially used for safety reason. Follow the link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Daytime_running_lamp
In old cars prior to 2009, DRL is not there, also some car manufactures have not yet adopted this. The VW group recently introduced this in Jetta and above, even it manufactures the same for SKODA and AUDI. |

Hi Swastik,
Yes, aware that DRLs are a must safety feature in certain european countries. In fact, it originated in the Scandinavian countries, as the visibility in roads were very poor and alarming, in winter season.
To be honest, in our country, the DRL is not required and is probably no more than a fancy feature.. It may be a useful feature for vehicles in hill stations, where it gets very misty and visibility drops, heavily during winter..
Cheers,

Hey pal,
I've deleted the empty posts, no worries. Have also changed your 'username' to fabia652@gmail.com, no need to create a new email ID and re-register here.
Thanks for the post on DRLs. I'm not too keen to go out of way to source kits and get it done. As is, not a very important feature to have anyway. I thought that if the set-up pre-existed in my Fabia, I supposed that I'll just get it activated.
Anyway, thanks again.

PLEASE DO NOT PUT IGNITION ON AND TRY PLEASE REMOVE THE KEY AND THEN TRY IT OR ELSE YOU MIGHT SEE DIWALI IN YOUR CAR
Pre-requiste;-
1) User manual
2) Patience
Everything at your risk please be double sure, but tis worked for me
The fuse box is located right under the steering column(steering wheel) to open the fuse box follow the steps:
you will have to apply little pressure as these are very tightly fixed:(Or else refer Break down assistance section ---> Fuses and Light bulbs --->Page 195 in the skoda manual)
Then
Once you get the cover out , behind the cover you will see a clip used to remove the fuse(do not remove/insert the fuse with your bare hands, as it is difficult and you might end up removing other fuses or you might end up doing something else)
Then In the above figure the sticker is for left hand drive and do not follow it, skoda has not changed the picture for right hand drive and more over if you see the fuse layout does not match to the one which we have so refer manual.
Now again go to page no 196,197 of the skoda manual and you can see the fuse layout diagram, there are two layouts of the fuse box, one for left hand drive and the other for the right hand drive, consider the one on the right hand if you are using the car in india(Or any right hand drive cars) or else choose left hand drive section.
See point no 17 in the fuse layout(User manual): there is a fuse assigned for the DRL with ampere rating as 7,5, this fuse is located on the Top right hand corner of the fuse box as shown in the figure below:
I do not know why do I have an 15Amperes fuse this fuse was put in by the service center guys when i asked them to activate the DRL, might be its okay and does not make much of a difference. The technician at skoda told me its just a fuse its nothing got to do with the software blah blah...
now you end up removing the fuse as shown below, now turn on the ignition to check ;
Yes it is done now you know how to turn On/Off the DRL
ON
OFF
For people who want to turn it on but do not have fuse may remove fuse from slot no "3" which is used to light up the instrument panels(speedometer etc) for testing for timepass only.
You can try out other bulbs by buying online:

Hope this helps happy to help
