Hi guys,
I was just going through the VAG-COM software and that we can alter our car parameters, Enable/disable functions, has any one bought the cable and the software and tried out?
Please share your thoughts and llet everyone know what can be done with the alterations.
I heard we can enable function like DRL, anti-hijack system, glass auto roll on locking etc |

Is it possible to get/source the VAG COM software? Our in-house scientish Robin might have some info on this, I am hoping..
EDIT: Just found this website from where VCDS s/w is available [for purchase].

Have seen VAS software (paid) in this site,
https://erwin.skoda-auto.cz/erwin/showHome.do
(Go to Diagnostics->Software tab, login might be required)
erWin is the Electronic Repair and Workshop Information service from Škoda Auto.
Lot of workshop manuals and documents available for paid reading/printing etc but seems bit costly.
Anyone tried ordering articles on this site? |

I have no idea about sourcing the software. All I know is that a few team-bhp members have it. Ajmat who owns an Octavia Vrs and one of the Yeti owner, I guess Pramod. _________________ Robin |

Anyone have experience with VCDS? I have been thinking about buying one but do not have much technical expertise at the moment on using it
I think HEX-USB+CAN Interface is the one suitable for 2011 model Indian Fabia 1.2 TDI -

Sure!
I bought the cable online directly from RossTech website,
http://store.ross-tech.com/shop/VCHUC.html
and shipped to a friend's address in US who was returning to India within next few days.
The price is high, you can buy a nexus 4 phone for that price
It is like an investment, can't expect immediate returns!
The license is programmed onto the cable itself so you can download the software for free from their website but it will work only with the original cable.
If you are shipping it directly to India then customs charges will be very high.
There are some cheap cables available in eBay but they work only for some old cracked versions of VCDS (for approx Rs 3000), you will not be able to upgrade that software and will not get any support. And the possibility of risk of damage using duplicate cable and cracked software, moral ethical issues etc.
I am still learning how to use it. It is more useful for those who want to tune their engine/ECU parameters or change any parts. Also for those who wants to customize some factory settings like auto-lock, DRL, etc (the scope for this is limited in Fabia compared to Laura, Yeti etc since Fabia doesn't have many of those features).
I do not plan to make any changes that void warranty. My intention is to be able to diagnose and identify the fault codes on my own as I do not trust the service center. When the turbo hose in my car had a crack, no error was shown on the on board display and the service center guys were unable to identify it in their test drives. I had to strongly ask them to examine everything. Finally they found some oil leakage near the engine area and examined further that lead to identification of crack in the hose. But if they would have done a VAS scanning the error was already logged there. When they replaced the hose on warranty they did VAS scanning and returned the car without clearing previous fault codes. On raising this with them (I was near the car when they did the scan) they had no clue if the fault code was due to any new fault present, or previous codes that were not cleared or even how to clear it. Finally the service manager had to come and clear it. That is when I started searching for reliable scanning system within budget.
Service center will charge you for usage of their VAS system/expertise. Moreover, the guys there have no knowledge on what can and can't be done using the VAS.
Having this cable also helps to learn and understand lot of information about the VW/Skoda group cars. I purchased it as a group of 3 friends/relatives who own VW group cars and were ready to share the price and cable.
As I mentioned, I am still learning and don't know any advanced usage. If we have a meet in Bangalore I can bring the cable and show some very basic demo |

That's awesome. So the license is not linked to VIN and can be used for any VW group cars?
I might buy one when I return to India. _________________ Robin |

It works for Audi also Can be used with VW group cars - VW/Audi/SEAT/Skoda - anywhere in the world. For other cars it supports generic OBD II/EOBD protocols (limited diagnostic capabilities). |

I'll still have my Fabia and there is a 50% chance that I will buy a VW here although the reputation is same here as in India _________________ Robin |

So I bought a VW Jetta SportWagon TDI with Sunroof this Friday. Will post pictures and the details later.
I was exploring the ross-tech site a bit for VCDS. My Jetta does not come with auto windows from Key Fob. I can operate it with the door look but would love to get the key fob thing going.
A friend has a Passat TDI and his auto window is inactive as well.
Is this the one you got 'VCDS License with HEX-USB+CAN Interface'
How better is it from 'VCDS License with Micro-CAN Interface'
I will bug you more on this _________________ Robin |

I don't think the awarded car is yet in the US market. We opted for the wagon because of the panaromic roof. It can't be had on the golf due to smaller roof length. More over after folding the seats on can actually sleep in it . Other wise it is same as the Golf available here. Strangely the space in the rear is not good as Fabia. Neither the overall height. When I raise the seats to my comfort level, my head almost touches the roof. I found this in most of the cars here. It was much comfortable in the Fabia and the Yeti.
The overall quality in this variant is better than the Yeti (marginally).
I'll soon buy the cable and keep you posted. And hopefully I should be able to use it in my Fabia as well when I come back.
Thanks _________________ Robin |

Hello! Your head will touch almost any car's roof you sit in. Keep the Pani sunroof inside shield cover open and make some space (lol)
By the time you come back, the odb port of your fabia may well have been rusted/broken down for the cable. _________________ Peace precedes Prosperity.. |
