|
|
I got the delivery of my Fabia 1.2 TDI Ambiente last week. I am really enjoying discovering small advanced helpful features around the car. However there one thing that keeps bothering me, its central locking.
When engaged it locks all doors and the boot so that no one can open the doors from the outside of the car, however anyone can one the door from inside by pulling the door lever.
This is a little concerning.... while driving an occupant can open the door accidently disengaging the central locking.
Why is it designed this way? As per the dealer its a feature they have provided for emergency situations i.e the flood like situation where people could not open their centrally locked doors in time.
Is there no way we can alter this feature by using Autocop or something similar? Does anyone else feels the same way?
Regards,
Kunaal |

If a rear door is opened from inside, only that door can be opened from outside. All the other doors remain locked. It again gets locked when you drive at 20kmph.
Front doors govern all the doors.
To unlock one has to pull the lever twice- one for unlocking and another for opening.
This is what I have noticed, I may be wrong. _________________ Robin |

After reading this I did some search in the manual and some experiment.
There is something called Safe Secure. Which means once the door is locked from outside it cannot be opened from inside (or outside). This is the default setting in the central locking system.
But if the lock button in the key is pressed twice within 5 sec, the Safe Secure is off - meaning the doors can be opened from inside. Also only the door which has been opened from inside can be opened from outside, others remain locked from outside.
Confusing but cool.
Also if the driver door is open, central lock cannot be enabled. But you can lock your key inside from the other doors. So be careful. Try this - open the rear door, press the lock button, close the door - all doors are locked. So if you drop the key inside in the process - god help you. _________________ Robin |

Hi .. Thanks a lot for answering
I was also explained that you need to pull the door lever twice from inside. The first time its suppose to unlock the door and the second time it is suppossed to open the door.
However when I asked the dealer to demonstrate it they could not - we tried it on about 4 Fabia's parked there.. finally they said they will need to find out and get back to us. |

Actually, this is a serious issue and the Vinayak Skoda Service @ Bangalore are clueless about it.
Once the car reaches 20 kmph, all the doors used to lock from inside and outside in my fabia. And i had to manually open the doors by pressing the 'Open' button in the central console.
While trying out the Safe Secure option, i de-activated this feature by turning the key anti-clockwise twice within 5 seconds. Now, these guys don't know how to activate this feature. The manual clearly says that to get it activated, one needs to visit the nearest Skoda Dealer.
I'm still in touch with Skoda to somehow get this fixed. I'll update if at all i'm successful. |

Sundeep,
Additionally you can also post up on Skoda India Facebook page. Get's lot of visibility and if it's an issue, it causes embarrassment. So there is a 'chance' they might answer. I'm assuming most emails sent to Skoda will only do the rounds with no real help.
Cheers,

Probably you might have firued it out by now... there is an option called child lock.
i picked this image from team-bhp.
once the child lock is set for a door, it can not be opened from inside. it can only be opened from outside.
if you have a little rascal.. he will figure out a way to lower the glass and open the door by himself |

i think after pushing the button on the center console which locks the doors from outside then the second option will also be closed for the little buddy. _________________ Vaibhav Jain |

Hi,
The safe-secure feature really shoudnt have disabled the auto-lock feature.
I had gotten the auto-lock feature activated by Skoda Autobahn. They too were unaware of this and first claimed that my car didnt support it as it didnt have this particular part.
I had gone prepared for this as the SA in India lack the tech know how, the Car Brochure clearly mentioned that any model from the Ambiente onwards had the auto-locking feature.
I insisted to see the VAG-COM and actually help the SA through the various options available.
Finally found the auto-lock feature and enabled that plus auto-unlock on key removal.
Now i dont remember exactly what this feature was under on the software, but i suggest you ask them to go through all the available options and check to have it activated.
There were loads of other features in that list too which were not activated, will take my car over to have them checked and activated. Hope their supported though!!
Hope this helps!!
Cheers,

Thanks Ayush,
I was waiting for such reply for a ling time... Now, i'm pretty sure that it can be done and will force the technical guy to enable it in my car. It would be great if you could let me know when you got this activated. They might say that, its possible only on a previous version of VAS etc etc ... so, just wanted to make sure its possible and dont want to comeback without getting it turned ON, this time around.

Hi Sandeep,
Yeah, i've noticed that there hasnt been too much activity on this forum lately.
But hey, i had this activated in April'11 within just a few days of purchasing the car.
I dont think a new software version will not show this feature, it's just the lack of technical know-how in my opinion. What you can carry with you is a print-out of the sales brochure which describes all the functions and features which come standard in your car.
BTW when did you purchase your car and what's the version and I can also search for it and forward you the link!
I really hope you get this very important feature activated, stay really firm and if possible check with another dealership?
God Bless!
Cheers,

Hi Sandeep,
Any update on the auto lock feature, were you able to get it activated.
And hey was just reading my comment above, dont know if you got me wrong but i was referring to the technicians at Skoda not having the technical know how and not you. So just making sure you didnt get me wrong buddy.
And do keep us updated about the progres.

Hi Aayush, not at all..i got it right..
During my first service, last month, i again tried to make them aware of the featue and get it fixed. But still, they were not able to fix and the guy/technicain again told me that they dont have such option. I got fed up with Vinayaka Skoda, atleast, on this issue.. . Planning to get in touch with Tafe and see whether they can help me out.
I didnt have any recent updates after your comment and hence didn't comment
Regards

Mine too is an Ambiente bought in April 2011, so the features are the same.
It definitely has the Autlock (overun) feature as mentioned in the specs list given by Skoda - here's a screen shot:
