The milaege of 11 km/l is really less for a diesel car. You should get it checked for sure. |

With Full tank traveled 260 Kms on highways and again refilled to full tank( Gulped 15.2 lts).
=> 17Kms/Ltr on highway (AC on all the time....)
Earlier record of mine (Full tank to reserve), mileage was 14 Kms/ltr.
Is there any effect by maintaining more than 25 lts in the tank to get better mileage in the city as well?

Yes, I second that comment from Uneet. You really need to have your car inspected Orion. 11 for diesel sounds way less, since I know Netchef and VKJ's diesel Fabs giving them almost 14-15 kmpl in city.
It may almost be possible that my 1.4 Petrol will finally give 11kmpl in city... While the trip computer now shows 8.6L/100kms.. I hope I have a reason to cheer after my tank goes dry on this fuel cycle.. _________________ Peace precedes Prosperity.. |

Looking at the mileage put on by Orion, it could be a possibility that he makes plenty of small trips thus affecting his FE.
My overall FE uptill now is 13.77 in 1.2 HTP. It is over 13300 kms on odo. |

Agreed.
I dont go on Long trips in bangalore city , that may be the reason and also due to slow traffic seldom cross 20kms/hr.
Also I have just used the car for 2500 kms as this being my first car , I started using it after I got the confidence to drive in traffic since November.
Also depends from which bunk one is filling Diesel , I used Shell for last 2-3 months now will shift back to BP or HP normal Diesel. |

Had an interesting experience today early morning going to the airport and back.
When I left home the available range showed 80km. at about 10km in the reserve light came on. I knew that the mileage will increase when on the airport road, so thought I'll fill up while returning. This was at 3:30am, the available range still at 80.
I drove cruising at 80 as far as possible with the AC on and by the time I got to the airport (32kms later), the available range dropped to 60. The onboard computer showed 5.8l/100km.
Coming back I switched the AC off and again cruised at 80. The on board computer slowly climbed to 4.7l/100km (almost 21.25km/l), and I reached the shell pump 24kms from the airport with the available range still showing 50!
My overall to date has been 10-10.5kmpl with 25% highway at 8700kms now. The trip really showed the potential of hypermile driving, with the 1.4 petrol. I think in ideal conditions (straight flat road, no bumps, 80-90kph), the car can do upwards of 25kpl, given the airport road is pretty bouncy and has some curves and slow areas in between. _________________ Driven by Fabia! |

Hello Fabiosi,
I'm back to report my fuel efficiency report from monitoring cylce 2. When I went to the regular BP station, my trip computer shows 218.2kms driven, with 'distance-to-empty' feature reading 20kms. I obviously wanted to drive another 10kms to cross 220kms [to get average count to exactly 11kmpl] but then I might be wasting time. The Fab was certain to go beyond 10kms on remaining fuel.
So that's that. 2nd cycle also confirms average is now 11kmpl. And I second, third and fourth Nipunkul's observation on his post above. The 1.4 MPi does give a good mileage when the Fab can stretch it's legs.. Bumber to bumber in city driving gives between 10 and 11, but long distance sedated driving can allow the fab to even see figures above 16kmpl [might be sounding too optimistic here, but it's possible is the feeling I get].
Also, I've been noticing that the engine feels butter smooth, for the last week or so. I've certainly not used any additives or changed fuel grade [i fill regular unleaded petrol from BP], so I am surprised it's so silky smooth. All the better
My current fuel cycle CANNOT be taken for fuel efficiency measurment as this week has seen me take a longer route to work that's bumper-to-bumper traffic, so certainly I don't expect 11kmpl on this cycle. I'll try to take my 3rd and final fuel efficiency measurement cycle on my next refill.
Until then, I'm happy that the 1.4 can and is giving 11kmpl. Another reason to smile. _________________ Peace precedes Prosperity.. |

Guys,
Iam little confised that my last fill was 48 lts and the car had done only 463 kms from the last fill. Milaege of merely 9 km/l nad above all mine is a diesel.
Before this in my ownership of one year the milaege has been constantly around 14-15
The fuel indicator showed two points of fuel left in my car and normally at this stage my car requirs a reffulling of around 39-40 lts. How come the tank took 48 lts this time is still mystery for me! Only difference was that the car was sent to the service center for its first service in between.
Any comments.... |

Looks like the case of a regular rip-off by the bunk attendent, or filling in the "secret chamber" as well.
Btw service station guys do have a universal habit of stealing fuel. |

1.2 MPI (Petrol)
Initial 500+ kms gave me 9 kmpl.
Have been getting about 12 kmpl since then. AC on almost always.
All of the driving in Mumbai city - 40 km/day.
Morning drives are quite relaxed with managable traffic on WEH and speeds around 50 km/hr. Evening drive back is horrendous to say the least, and involves 1st/2nd gear use and 5 to 15 km/hr speed for almost 10 odd kms.
So I guess it evens out.
Not complaing, would like to touch 14 kmpl in city someday. _________________ ~ Jig

Took a trip out of town last weekend (Kodai). Available KM onboard was showing 120 when I got a full tank before leaving. This was at BP Airport road (speed).
30.3 L at Rs.1683 was filled and I began. 500 kms odd later I refuelled to full tank again in TN (having covered 90kms in ghats and 200+ on SH). This time got 35.2L for Rs.1827 at IOC (premium).
Return journey was 650km odd, with 185kms on hill roads, 300 on SH and 170 on NH. Reached bangalore with onboard showing 140 range left.
So net 65.5L petrol used in 1150+ kms. Thats over 17.5kmpl, over varied roads, long periods in towns and hills. Makes me truly smile! _________________ Driven by Fabia! |

I have Fabia ambiente 1.2 petrol and I have done about 1650 Km . In the last 18 days the car is lying with the dealer and they have run the car for over 250 Km .
For my first fill of full tank with IOC xtraprmeium which is a higher octane fuel i got a mileage of 7.5 KM . For the rest of fills the average for the run close to 8.3 Km .The last few fills of 20 litres each the car has given 8.5,8.9 and 8.7 in that order . My dealer has tested the car and reported 9.1,9.3 and rounded 10 . I suspect the last figure as the data looks fudged. They reported 11.75 Km on the highway orally but when i got the written report it says round 12 KM . I have always used IOC Xtrapremilum .Always run the car in Bangalore with in 10 KM of MG road mostly during offpeak timimngs some times with AC and sometimes without.
Do I have a hope of seeing 12 KM in Bangalore and that is the commitment given to me when I bought the car. Commitment for highwaay was 17 KM .

12 on highway is too less by any standard. I have never got less than 15 on a long trip. Which Dealer?
I think who should take up the matter with Skoda and start pushing for a replacement. They have been replacing the 1.4 MPI.
BTW, you have done just 1650 KM till now? May be the engine has not completed it's run-in yet. My car also started with 8 in city in the begining. And it was under 10 till 3500 KMs. It improved after a trip to Goa, when the odo touched 5000 km. I still don't get 12 in city even though most of my driving is on weekends and away from the crowded city centre.
Anyhow it is a pain to deal with the dealers. Hope your problem is resolved soon. |

Replacement for slightly less average? No way thats going to happen.
Anyway, how would you rate your clutch and brake use ? When do you shift up / down (rpm) ? What are your driving conditions (fully loaded/busy areas) or other wise ? These may be some deciding factors for the fuel consumption.
Also, as mentioned, pl wait till you cross atleast 2.5 k on the ODO and then see if there is any improvement. _________________ ~ Jig

I have been driving mostly under highway conditions to work and on weekends its the city chaios... I fill up and watch for the mileage and have been doing this for nearly 9000 kms now. Taking a 75:25 ratio of Highway:City on every tank, I get between 16-17 Km/ltr everytime.
37 litres of petrol takes me around for 610-615 kms.
As I am nearing 1st service, Hope things will stay same on this front if not better after the service.
Will post my experience on service records soon. |

Awesome average with the petrol, even considering a higher highway use. Any tips ? _________________ ~ Jig
