Jig --- I follow some of the following basics while driving:
(1) Warm up the engine for at least a min..every morning before u rock that gear...let the oil circulate...declutch a few times with the gear in neutral...
(2) Higher speeds - Never drive with window down.
(3) Keep the air pressure in your tyres under check. 32 PSi front and 31psi rear -- 1.2 HTP
(4) Keep the AC at the coolest with blower initially on 2 and then later on 1 ...depends on heat though.
(5) On a hot day or when u need AC..operate the AC only after driving out for 5-10 mins with all windows down. This helps the cabin cool off. Unless outside air is more killing than inside temp... can happen when u pull out from a covered garage..into hot sun..
(6) Shift to higher gears ASAP after gaining enough momentum...dont rev too high on lower gears.
(7) For cruising ..80 km/hr shud be good at 2500 rpm. I do 90-100 at 3000rpm regularly.
( Avoid sudden braking and acceleartion.
Automobile Engineering says., brake is meant to be used for emergency. You should control your speed with acceleration. Example - You know the toll booth is approaching on a highway, what do you do...speed till u reach there n brake hard...na... instead its advisible to cut the accleration and roll smooth...u will be kind on ur brakes, engine and suspension too.....
All this for a better performing engine... |

I'm back with better figures to quote now..
I've until now only used my 1.4 Petrol Fabia largely for city use, with very rare visit to the airport or another office visit at after Hebbal..
I get between 11.7 and 12kmpl everytime I fuel my car at SHELL, everytime for 20 litres each trip. I've got 12kmpl consistently on atleast 3-4 fuel fill cycles now..
For a buck more/litre, I get more than 1kmpl more.. SHELL does well.. _________________ Peace precedes Prosperity.. |

I just did a through calculation.
Total mileage ~ 22000 kms (around 50% highway driving)
Total petrol used = 1591 litres
FE ~ 13.83 kms/litre
Least FE on a long trip, 15 kms/litre on Bangalore-Kodai-Munnar trip. Lot of ghat section in Kodai-Munnar section. |

I think Skoda recommends Normal Diesel rather than Shell or any other premium Diesel.
Any comments guys.... |

Uneet,
Yes I think you may be right [cause I'm not 100% sure myself] but I think I saw Skoda write in their website or somewhere else that the India Fabia does not have the Diesel Particulate Filter [DPF] due to which it may be better to use normal unleaded diesel than premium or octane boosted diesel.
Any other diesel owner who can confirm or correct us? I'm sure the Diesel Fabia manual will have a description of this, very sure.

Shell is just a company. Like HP / IBP etc.
Shell Diesel is regular (and hopefully clean) diesel.
It is better to avoid 'premium' diesel/petrol (like High Speed D / Speed P) on Fabias.
Try to put in standard but clean fuel. _________________ ~ Jig

I was getting low milage between 11-12 kmp/ltr for Diesel for a long time.
Now I am getting 15 plus with AC 100 % always after 4000kms of running. _________________ Rgds
