My FE is in the 10 - 11 range since last couple months (drop from 11-11.5). I am not sure if the new fuel pump has got anything to do with that.
I have been driving in a bit of traffic these days coupled increase in frequency of very short trips.
The recent reading is 10.59 kms/lt _________________ Robin |

That is still better than what I get with my 1.2 HTP! My last two readings are 8.29 and 9.79. These are the best ever for me. It is about 9500KM on the ODO. Most of the time is spent in 3rd gear. Used to be less than 8. Last two fillings were from the IOC pump near Koshy's. 2-3 months back, filling for about Rs 1000/- (18 litres), I used to get hardly 100KM which is less than 6KMPL. This time I have filled from the IOC pump near Jayadeva. Waiting to see the KMPL as people have said good things about that pump in team-bhp. |

Inquire about the good pterol pump in your locality and stick to it. My experience with IOC has not been good. When in Bangalore, I stick to the BP bunk opp Manipal hospital on old airport road. Many people have vouched for their fuel quality. It makes a lot of difference.
My initial readings weren't any better. The difference was that I had made 2 long trips before the 10000 km mark (Goa 1600kms and Vapi 2200kms). If not on a long drive, I prefer driving only on a Sunday. _________________ Robin |

Yes BP opp Manipal is best , better to fill fuel early morning around 6-30 am in Bangalore this will ensure you get the correct quantity .
I have been using HP since last 4 months and I am getting average milage of 15.5 kms pl of diesel (city driving with AC), briefly I had touched 17 kmpl now back to 15.5.
I am sure I will get better milage if I fill from BP an Manipal as I have done a tank full twice earlier and there is no difference between SHell and BP opp Manipal.Quality is good opp Manipal hospital. _________________ Rgds

bangalore folks -
why not try the Shell unleaded now ?
the cost now would be more or less same to the other pumps , and has been reported to have much better quality.
and preferably to tank-fulls whenever done to reduce the trip to the bunk if that is too far.
i've managed to stick on to 10-11 kmpl so far in mumbai ..
now i am trying to use the a/c a little more smartly / judiciously and see if that improves things (what with the petrol prices going thru the roof now)..
at times i take in fresh air with windows down (early in the morning or late in the night, with less traffic)
at times i just keep the blower on and the a/c off when doable
or i just turn the a/c off intermittantly when i feel the cabin has reached a comfortable cooling level _________________ ~ Jig

This again brings up discussion -
1-Is Shell Normal petrol/Diesel bad for Fabia
2-Is it as bad , when we are aware we are getting adultered fuel in PSU pumps.
Was wondering if it would be good idea to have a mix of 70:30 from HP/BP vs shell in a tank at two seperate fills to check is there is appreciable difference.
This may minimize damage to engine which skoda service engineers say for avoiding shell.
Any views if shell is good or bad compare to adultered fuel _________________ Rgds

The milaege of my diesel classic has come down drastically to around 12 km/l in city driving with AC on. _________________ Currently driving - XUV 5OO, Honda Civic, Skoda Fabia, New Swift, Hyundai Santro.

20 % drop culprit has to be Fuel bunk _________________ Rgds

i agree. has to be bad fuel.
unless you've driven thru some bad traffic and the sample size was too small.
do try dusting off the air filter as well. _________________ ~ Jig

Hmmmm.. Looks like a lot of folks are seeing reductions in their Fab's fuel efficiency.
I remember Robin mentioning casually that it has happened after the fuel pump's replacement. Could it be the cause?
A few of you here might be able to remember I was striving hard and pushing for my 1.4 petrol to yield into giving 12kmpl but after the fuel pump replacement, she hardly goes beyond 11kmpl. 12 seems too far-fetched now.
I still fuel up [only] at the BP bunk on airport road but the fuel economy doesn't seem to go up.. Only thing going up at fairly regular intervals, is the cost of fuel.. Damn!!!

I touched 11 in my last fill. But with that kind of driving I usually got 11.5-12. There is definetly a dip of .5 km / lt. |

I have done a mix of PSU (HP) to Shell in ratio of 60:40 , I see the milage going up.
Will put the final figures shortly. _________________ Rgds

My daily drive has now increased from 3 kms to 8 kms. There is an improvement in the FE too. The extra 5 km that I drive is in the early morning (Gym and all) with thin traffic. _________________ Robin |

Guys..
The milaege in my car has come down to 12.25 km/l in the same city conditions for quite some time now. I tried changing the fuel station also, but that has not helped.
All this is despite the fact that the car was recently serviced also.
Any comments.. _________________ Currently driving - XUV 5OO, Honda Civic, Skoda Fabia, New Swift, Hyundai Santro.

The mileage inside city has increased from 9.5 to 10.5 km/l
The only change is the air pressure, increased to 30 (the reason for less mileage might be due to less pressure in the tyre) |
