Yes the Rotors / plates can be reused by turning the inner and outer surface on a Lathe/Turning Machine, provided the wear is not much as this may impact once the brake pads wear thus increasing the gap for the brakepad to come in contact with the rotor.

I dont think any service station is equipped with lathe machine for this. I will get the old discs run on alathe machine when I travel to my home town and next time I will replace only the Rear brake pads after 35000 to 40000 kms

I would like to see the extend of damage to your rotors when we meet next. Will post some pics here for reference Smile.

Just checked mine. It certainly isn't as smooth as I was thinking. I may also have to change it soon. I could feel slight curves with my finger.

pravin - is the new rotor all plane on the surface, including the circumference? I mean is it all in one plane?

Well its a zinc plated one , so its smooth and finish is fine.
I think replacing the rotors @ 40000kms is fine.

Difficult to remachine used rotorand reuse , as its thickness on machining will reduce atleast by 3 mm so there is risk in it unless the operator is a expert and able to face off correctly @ 90 degrees to the hub with a minimum cut of less than 1 mm.

This Saturday I went to Vinayak, mainly to replace my break pads and coolant which have seen through 27k kms.

I had insisted for the SA 'Prem'. He has been good since Pravin Patil's days.

According to him the pads had 70% life still left. So the only things replaced were the front wipers @630/- for a pair and a fused brake bulb @50/-. Two years ago I had paid 1400 for the wipers.

My car has clocked 53.5k kms so far and the next service is due at 59k kms. He suggested that I replace the pads and coolants etc with the next service. Not bad since I don't have any major long distance trip planned for near future. The next service is going to cost me a bomb. Plus my car will complete four years soon which means a battery replacement is near the corner too. Tires have a lot of tread still left but with age I am sure the rubber would have hardened signifficantly. I will have to watch out for them too. 2012 is going to an expensive year for my Fabia Smile

The car is running better now. Could be due to cleaner air fliters (summer camp stuff). It would have chocked pretty badly in my trip to Kutch as expected.

On Monday I had my car washed at 3M, HSR layout.

Decent is the best I would rate them.

I can still see dust on the inside of the doors and near the seat height adjustment lever (and many more places). I had specifically asked them to clean those areas. The dust is actually silt from Kutch and it has been there for long enough now.

They did a fine job of the exterior. But they use very high pressure water spray and from a very close distance (many a times it was close to 1 feet). I can't have my car cleaned there frequently.

Under body cleaning was the only good thing (something the service station guys don't do).

Paid 450/- for all.

How did they know about the rubber mounts? I hear noise from the suspension but everytime those guys test drive it doesn't show up. I think this is where we are going to be hit hard compared to other cars. How much were the mounts for?

Got my 1.2 Petrol 1st free service a week back @Vinayak skoda okalipuram

Costed me Rs5300 for the service, clocked about 9K Kms

Skoda service center will never change i suppose - they told me that they do not wash the engine bay for petrol cars at all as the injectors will stop functioning, so i thought may be they are right but when i saw the under chassis part there was not a drop of water sprayed for the car, finally they accepted their mistake and got the under chassis cleaned but the engine bay was not cleaned, is this right can anyone confirm this.

Filter element with(03d198819a) Rs91.54
Fuel filter with pre(6q0201051j) - Rs 432
Misc(c001) - rs432
Wind screen washer - 158
Lead weight -Rs148*3
Castrol magnatec - 2.85l*Rs824 = 2350
Wheel Alignment - Rs900
Tax 534+111+108+2+1

Total = Rs5363

Its very rare or almost difficult to find two individuals in this thread with the same spare part prices...... why is this so???????

I got a call from vinayak skoda bangalore asking me to come for a general checkup which they started doing for every 7500 km or 6 months. I thought it must be free but they are going to charge Rs 1000 for this checkup. Anybody in this forum attended this?

I went to Vinayak again this Saturday for the following

AC gas check.
Coolant change, was missed in last service.
Brake fluid inspection.

I was surprised to find that brake fluid and AC gas level was OK. I was expecting the gas to go low after after years. The SA said - may be gas was being topped up regularly at various servicing - I doubt because I have never been charged.

I wanted to change the brake fluid as the manual suggests to change every 2 years. It is in its fifth year now. SA insisted that it was fine.

Charge for coolant change was 1400/-

Two weeks ago my Fabia met with an accident. The shed in the parking lot collapsed and fell on it damaging the rear glass and some area of roof (minor dents). Nobody was in the car. Got the car back last Wednesday. Total cost - 31k which included ~6k for glass and ~2k for the sealant glue, rest all labor, dent and paint.

Everything was fine till last Wednesday morning. Took the car in the afternoon and within minutes realized that AC, power window, rear etc are not working. Went back and talked to the manager who in turn blasted all those all those in charge. The SA had insisted on interior cleaning whereas I didn't want it but eventually lost in the battle of polite words. He even reduced charges from other places to include interior. It was found that extra use of cleaning fluid at vulnerable places resulted in electrical failure. I could sense the stickiness on the steering, buttons etc where it should have been avoided. Every cleaning product mentions these as caution. How could the buffoons at Tafe not know this?

Be careful when you give your car for cleaning. Please advise the person handling your car not to spray the fluid in every possible hole.

The car seems to be doing fine now (touch wood).

They identified the place where the water was affecting the functioning of the electrical, mostly near/inside of the steering column, power window switch, and cleaned it. That's what they said. I had suspected a blown fuse but they denied any replacement, may be because I insisted that it be mentioned in the record.

Earlier this month Pravin and I got new tyres. Bridgestone MY02 @4700/- a piece. Including some alignment and balancing effort.

I haven't driven it much after that but Yesterday I could feel the difference. Steering became a bit lighter. Road noise has gone down considerably. I now hear the engine noise more. The ride is softer and more comfortable too.

All the research was done by Pravin so don't ask me why we chose MY02. I trusted his effort and tagged along Smile. If you have any technical query, Pravin would be the best person to contact.

Driven about 1000kms since changing to Bridgestone My-02 tyres last month, Tyres are silent, Grip is good in both wet and dry , so no compromise in grip durring wet conditions.
Ride is now comfortable compared to earlier stock matador tyres.
