|

Hello Guys,
Iam starting a new thread wherein everyone can record there city and highway milaege.
Pls join in with the data guys.
My Fabia diesel has clocked 6700 kms in 11 months and is due for its first service next month.
The city milaege was constant at 17 km/l in winters which has come down to 13 km/l in peak summers in Delhi.
The highay milaege was 21 km/l with 50% AC on. |

17 is too good. What is the logical explanation for low FE in summers?
I'll post my latest calculations soon. |

I even managed to touch 18 once!
The only logical answer is the costant use of AC while driving, not swithing off the engine at trafic signals, and overall heat inside the car.
But still i feel that the milaege should have been around 14 in summers. |

Well mates.. Unphortunately, my 1.4 White boy only allowes me to travel between 9.5-10kms per litre of fuel. Any more pushing and I fear the car might stop in its tracks. lol
Truth be told, I'm certainly disappointed my car 'sometimes' does not even give a full 10/ltr. I did expect more efficiency, but def not more than 11 or in the whereabouts.. Afterall the 1.2 only gives 12.5 so cannot expect more than 11 for the 1.4. _________________ Peace precedes Prosperity.. |

@Ajay, Well these figures are really quite less. Hope you are trying to follow a basic regime of driving and not pushing yr car beyond 2000 RPM as this helps in increasing around 8-10% of milaege. |

The best I am getting now in city is 17kmpl with 90% AC. On the highways I regularly get 21 +/-. But, once I did manage to get around 25kmpl on the expressway. It has 32k+ kms on the odo. |

Well, the only reason I can think of Ajay is in winters the temp drops. And as the fundamental says cooler air is more dense than hot air. Fabia TDI runs on turbo and the compressed air than is cooled with the help of intercooler, when it passes through it. The Intercooler is cooled depending on the outside temp. If the temp drops the Intercooler will work more efficiently thus cooling the compressed air better. As I said colder the air, the more dense air will be meaning more oxygen molecule. Which means better (efficient) burning of fuel and inturn better power and pickup.
Thus, in summers one can always expect slight drop in power, pickup and mileage. |

Hi ,
I now envy all those who chose to buy diesel car despite the noise . I am not getting even 10 on my petrol 1.2 with all my 34 years of driving experience .There is a romour that Skoda may intoduce turbocharged 1.2 petrol . Any one has any news on this . Dealer denies any knowledge.

On my 1.4 P I get 9.5-10 in the city (only 500 kms a month, mostly in traffic) and 14kpl on the highway.
Have crossed just 8K km in 13 months.
BTW I have used Speed/Premium except 1 or 2 occasions. _________________ Driven by Fabia! |

Looking at your's and Ajay's FE figure, it seems 9.5-10 is only what the 1.4 Mpi capable of.
My 1.2 delivers between 11 and 12.5 in city. In my Goa trip it returned 17 kmpl overall for 1600 kms covered. On my recent trip to Kodaikanal-Munnar it was 15 kmpl for 1200 kms. It envolved diriving in ghats too.
@msbala: I am sure Invinsible will be able to help you detect the problem.
@Invinsible: Do you want me to shift this thread to the engine block section (your territory )? |

hi all
well still strugling at 8 to 8.5 km in bangalore citi roads with premium petrol from IOC and over 35 years of driving exp.. The last bit 38 ltres and 331 km - have not taken it for high way trip yet . will do so shortly . the car went to the workshop twice to check mileage and came back with a report - everything technically ok -i dont know what it means . I still do not know why these salesmen bluff and mislead people . They are not losing a customer as I had fixed on fabia . The question was - shd it be noisy diesel or petrol . If thses guys had told me that it will deliver only 8 wd have prefered noisy but more cost effective diesel over 1.2 petrol .

Admin@ that would be a better idea to have this topic in engine block section. |

Hi newbies and msbala in particular. Welcome..
I've never pushed my Fab much in city driving conditions but have crossed 2500rpm over 3rd gear and above...
Based on Uneet's suggestion, i'm now upshifting on all gears between 2000 -2200rpm. I'm not sure if this will yield better results yet, but initial look at the now reset trip computer shows 8.5 litres of fuel consumed every 100kms.. Of course, this is just a rough indication and I don't take this as concrete mileage, until my fuel goes almost empty and total kms driven...
And I haven't done the tankful to tankful check yet. I only tank up on out of city and loong drives, never in city [due to worry of fuel evaporation; unless, that's a myth]
Will keep you folks posted once tank gets empty... I better get atleast 10kmpl [damn].. _________________ Peace precedes Prosperity.. |

I think just stick to the RPM between 2000 - 2500 in all gears and you will notice a gradual difference of upto 10%
Also go through the manual for further assistance as they have clearly mentioned the tips to save fuel and increase milaege. |

Hi Gents,
I am here to report my observations from my fuel fill yesterday. I always fill fuel, almost every week, for 20 ltrs.. I went in to fill fuel at almost empty [i go in for re-fill when trip comp shows about '20kms to empty'] and saw the tripmeter read 219.4kms, with the 'distance to empty' showing 20kms.. That averages to 10.97 kms/litre.
Now from initial observations, it looks like that is close to 11kms a litre. NOT BAD at ALL... Afterall, keeping revs under 2300rpm does help.. I also noticed the trip computer show fuel consumption at 8.8/100 [that is litres/100 kilometers]. Though the two don't match, the difference is quite close, about 0.4 kms/litre..
While I'm not going to shout from the roof tops that the FE is now 11kmpl, I'm going to observe this for 2 more fuel fill cycles and confirm. Let me see if I'm successful in wringing this engine off every drop of petrol
cheers... aK _________________ Peace precedes Prosperity.. |

Uneet, maybe Kunal has a diesel Fabia.. Not sure, but somehow find 21kmpl a high claim for a petrol. Unless, it is a petrol 21kmpl is indeed the FE, Kunal should call the Guiness Book of Records. And Skoda too. No kidding. _________________ Peace precedes Prosperity.. |
